Album Notes

The Velvet Mafia is the brain-trust of Dean Johnson, the legendary towering bald drag queen who starred in the midnight cult classic "Mondo New York." Johnson has dominated NYC's underground music scene since the 80s, first with his groundbreaking party "Rock n Roll Fag Bar" and later with the creation of the queer music showcase HomoCorps, staged monthly at the cradle of punk, CBGB on the bowery. His hilarious lyric style has been compared to Stephen Sondheim's, but The Velvet Mafia's world is populated by horny space aliens, desperate celebrities, sleazy closet cases and shameless whores. As Next Magazine put it, "The Velvet Mafia makes Marilyn Manson look like John Tesh."
Johnson's hysterical observations will keep you in stitches while the band's backbeat keeps you dancing. The Velvet Mafia cut its chops in the underground clubs of New York City and they know how to please an audience. Can you name another band with a Catholic schoolgirl on bass or a saxaphone-playing crowd-surfing nun? WARNING: This music is NOT for The Christian Right. But The Christian Wrong will love it! Adult Content.
