For those of us who have been in deep withdrawal since the breakup of Vendetta Red, this song will welcome you back with a punch in the face. Blank Screens, Etc is the first single from their upcoming release "Scriptures," which promises to be a worthy sequel to the concept album "Sisters of the Red Death." The snippets I've heard from "Scriptures" have sent me diving back into by collection of Vendetta Red albums. I find myself remembering a day when MTV2 played Subterranean and when post-hardcore bands could only be seen after 11pm. This debut track sets the tone for what can be expected in those to follow, an adventure through the current age of unworthy celebrity status. In a recent interview with Curtis Chandler, singer/lyricist Zach Davidson explained, "Lyrically speaking for 'Blank Screens, Etc.' it’s me being fucking fed up with the vapid, shallow fucking garbage. So I’m calling out how we fucking glamorize and exult these fucking shallow celebrities." Prepare yourself for another dose of grotesque lyrics packed with enough alliteration to scorch your throat as you struggle to keep up with the rolling waves of laments and lullabies packed into 3 minutes. Even if the manic riffs don't immediately drag you into the song, much as in "Sisters of the Red Death," you'll be carried along by the intriguing story line: "'Poor me, where's my share?' you say/ You're going to be so famous. Yeah. / You don't need talent just your decent looks and your Daddy's money/ in the apocalypse we will eat you." As long as there will be bitter banshees, I'm completely okay with this scenario.
