Album Notes

The Anders Vercelli Trio is comprised of three grads from Berklee College of Music in Boston. In the spring of 2005, a special event was taking place that required live jazz, and the Anders Vercelli Trio was formed. The trio entertained the crowd for hours, and the event seemed to be straight out of The Great Gatsby. Attire was black tie only. Blueberry martinis were served. Maseratis were parked out front. The Governor landed his helicopter on the roof. When it was all over, confetti snowed down and everyone smashed their champagne glasses in the fireplaces like the Russians used to do at their crazy parties.

There is an amazing array of tunes on this debut album that include: the whimsical Pure Imagination from the classic film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, a fresh jazz waltz rendition of the hymn Let There Be Peace on Earth, and the hauntingly beautiful Blame It On My Youth, composed by pianist Oscar Levant in 1934. The song Hello is a forgotten gem that was originally a ballad written for the 1958 musical Goldilocks, but was cut from the show. When You Wish Upon A Star has been redone as a jazz waltz and closes out the album with a certain joie de vivre that can only be described as sublime.

Welcome to their world. This delightful album is just straight up jazz piano. Goes well with starry nights, champagne toasts, and dinner for two. Repeat as needed. Enjoy!

Cheerful sophistication.

Delightful is not a word I use often. But there's something so sprightly, so charming, so winningly winsome about this recording. If you're looking for some sun on a somber day, this cd is for you. The Anders Vercelli Trio plays. It doesn't overplay cloyingly or tiresomely. Rather, it plays the American Songbook like a kitten would a ball of string...deliriously and delightfully. There's a confident, elegant, artful elan here. And while the entire cd is consistently enjoyable -- a lighter-than-air confection, a pleasure that's never guilty -- I have to single out "Pure Imagination" for special praise. I can't help myself from smiling each time I hear it. Vercelli and Co. have conjured the twinkle in Gene Wilder's eye. Polished, effortless and carefree, this music makes the perfect accompaniment to a stylish dinner party. Unsure or in a hurry? Just listen to tracks 1, 2 and 9.

My respect for Anders is endless. Before I was a recording artist, I could say that I grew up listening to Anders playing and singing in his house after dinner time. He'd play and I'd sit there and enjoy.

Listening to this CD makes me happy. I love putting it on when I come home from work and am getting dinner going. My baby girl and I enjoy dancing to the upbeat classics! Anders played at our wedding so it also brings back wonderful memories!

I bought a copy of this CD and thought the first track sounded decent. But as I left it on during the party, my friends told me it sounded the same and told me to put something else on.
