Album Notes

Formed in Brooklyn in 2003, Verismo combines the fury and technical prowess of metal and classical music with the energy and spontaneity of punk and rock. Hailing from Italy, Hungary, and the Philippines respectively, Stephan Laboccetta (guitar, vocals), Tamas Vajda (drums), and Vinny Cruz (bass, vocals) combine a variety of metal influences as well as some more traditional ones to form a truly unique and recognizable sound.

Beneath the cacophony of thrash and power metal style grooves, sonic mayhem and breakneck time changes, there are simple, subtle classical themes that transport the listener into Verismo's twisted view of life in the City of Kings.

Trained musicians with a knack for odd time signatures, Verismo run the gamut from rock to thrash to power metal, often within the same song. Quirky, memorable lyrics, stunning double bass and percussion work, powerhouse fingerstyle bass playing, and some of the absolute sickest guitar riffs you've heard make this band worth their weight in chops alone. Their reputation, however, comes from their live show.

After lighting up CBGB's, Piano's, The Bitter End, and other NYC standards, Verismo know their fans expect a lot live and they deliver; expect a chaotic night of headbanging, virtousic playing, excessive drinking and a strange, somewhat threatening Phillipino cowboy screaming at a bewildered crowd.

2007's Best Kept Secret
author: Ruben Mosqueda
Verismo will likely go down as 2007's best kept secret as we head into mid 2007 and no one has yet to pick up on how great this band is. Their album is City of Kings and it's a throw back to the old school thrash of early Metallica, Megadeth, Exodus and Testament. So in other words Bay Area thrash metal, but these guys are from the East Coast, Brooklyn to be exact. And they are superb musicians to boot; the vocals are powerful and intense. This power trio brings back memories of another East Coast sensation called Wrathchild America, unfortunately they fizzled after a few albums, I think Verismo is better. City of Kings is a filler free affair that will have you yearning for the days of the inception of the American thrash metal scene. Those were the days; they don't make thrash metal like that anymore… But wait Verismo does. Buy the album spread the word because this is one case where anonymity is the enemy. The standout tracks on City of Kings are; “Enemy” this features a powerful crushing riff throughout the song and the bass line isn't too shabby either. “Bad Day” opens with a fantastic drum intro then kicks into high gear, and “Moment of Clarity” is heavy thrash metal at it's finest. www.cravemagazine.com
