Veronica Morgan’s Story
Veronica Morgan, a four year breast cancer survivor vows, to tell her testimony of her healing through gospel music. Whether cancer or other difficult circumstances, she prays that listeners will grasp hope and faith when encountering any life crisis.
Veronica Morgan is a new independent gospel artist whose motto is: With God all things are possible. In February, 2007, Ms. Morgan had a mastectomy and received chemotherapy for her cancer treatments. The news was devastating at first. She was a single parent, with two teenage children. Ms. Morgan, a nurse at WakeMed Health and Hospitals, Raleigh, NC, couldn’t imagine how her life was going to change.
After being out on medical leave for almost eighteen months, Ms. Morgan experienced financial difficulties. She had always been an independent individual. However, after all her savings and finances were exhausted she sought assistance from Social Service (FDS Card) and the Salvation Army. In the midst of all this turmoil she became her own legal representation (due to lack of funds to hire an attorney) and filed bankruptcy. She even had some furniture repossessed.
Though afflicted, Ms. Morgan praised God still. She found comfort in gospel music. She often visualized herself as a warrior winning a battle. For Ms. Morgan, that battle was cancer. Now Ms. Morgan is cancer free!
Ms. Morgan says “I may have a scar but I am healed”. Ms. Morgan believes that cancer affects women of all ages, race and creed. “Women who are survivors must tell our story of hope and faith. We must strive to transform a negative situation into a positive outcome.” In January of (2010) her doctor thought she was out of remission. But thank God all the tests were negative. Praise God!
Therefore, Ms Morgan decided to step out of the box and walk into God’s purpose and destiny. In February, 2010, Ms. Morgan won the 103.9 FM (The Light, Raleigh, NC) singing audition for 2010 Women’s Empowerement. On the day of the audition, Ms. Morgan said a voice of an angel awakened her and told her to go to the audition. She was assigned the number thirty-seven. Ms. Morgan felt blessed. She knew that on the spiritual realm that the number three represented the Holy Trinity and the number seven was the number for completion. As Ms. Morgan entered the stage, she heard the voice of God say “this is not a time for competition but knows that you have sixty seconds to minister in song”. And she did just that. Ms. Morgan was one of the winners of the singing audition. She was able to sing at the RBC Center amongst thousands with national gospel artists Marvin Sapp, Be Be & Ce Ce Winans, Jeff Majors and Karen Clark-Sheard.
Ms. Morgan auditioned for “Sunday Best” in Philadelphia, PA. (2010) Ms. Morgan advanced to round three immediately (top ten percent). She was able to meet Kirk Franklin, Donte Boatwright and Terrance of “BET” in which was deemed a wonderful experience. Ms. Morgan stated she went to lunch and the God spoke to her saying she wasn’t going to win. He told her that she was in his permissive will and not his perfect will. Ms. Morgan was perplexed. She replied “God, I just spent $389.00 to get here”. The God responded “there is something greater”. Ms. Morgan didn’t question God anymore. She replied and said “then I am going to be the next (gospel) Jennifer Hudson”.
Ms. Morgan, later attended Donald McClurklin (National Gospel Artist) Youth Conference in Chicago summer of 2010. She was able to attend music workshops where producers Randall Hurt, Donald Lawrence and Michael Witherspoon were facilitators. Mr. Hurt stated “If you have a story to tell, a Christian base foundation and good character, then the sky is the limit to what you can accomplish”. Ms. Morgan knew that she possessed these qualities and pursed to start her own record label “Miracle Records”. Ms. Morgan then knew what God meant by “something greater”. God wanted to get the glory! Therefore, Ms. Morgan doesn’t view this new endeavor as a new career. But as an opportunity to minister the sound of hope, faith and encouragement to those who will only believe and trust believe God. “For with God all things are possible.
