Album Notes

This 2-piece ensemble from Austin, Texas along with some hired guitar artisans melds the ambient sounds of acoustic folk-rock with the raw verbiage found among today's leading songwriters. With a faith in God and His Son as the cornerstone of their message, Vesper Skye launches into their new shoes with a relentless drive to convey a message that defies a listener to stop being self-focused and become God-focused by placing a strong emphasis on relationship vs. religion.

With songs ranging in topic matter from: escaping despair, reverence, suicide, hope, and the comparison of father and child to the relationship between God and His own children, Vesper Skye rings in as genuine and strives to put on a humble face for their creator. Hard-rock riffs underlined by acoustic melodies set the forefront as energetic drumbeats accompany a mature and rich vocal presence. With influences ranging from John Mayer and Edwin McCain to Third Day and Jars of Clay, Vesper Skye exceeds capacity through a wide range of inventive riffs and engrossing hooks.

Humility marks the release of Vesper Skye's first, full-length album. Recorded at Promiseland Studios (operated by Randy Phillips' of Phillips, Craig, and Dean) and mixed and mastered in Houston, Texas by acclaimed producer Mark Townsend (DC Talk, Shania Twain, Jennifer Knapp, Israel Houghten, etc.) Humility delivers a true indie record with professional-quality sound.

Singer-songwriters Marty Merida and Aaron Hass of Vesper Skye fill their debut album, Humility, with life experience and playful melodic rhythms. Even when pushing the envelope on life, faith, and God-encounters, Vesper Skye comes off as glib; just one second of "Glory of the Moment" convinces us that "it's been through their heads". Between Marty's vocals and the accomplished sound of this duo, they could be just as easily offering tunes for hire to a coming-of-age generation while making a stand for themselves and their view on Christianity. The premise of "Madison Avenue"--that the protagonist didn't share the Lord with a close friend ultimately ending in fatality--is wistful but edifying. "Hold" is a longing to be held safe by Jesus, letting Him in to wipe away self-deprecation. "Start it in Me", an outcry to God to stir our souls, teaching that revival starts with one person. Ultimately, Skye comes off as a tiny vessel with a big sail: constantly aware of their own shortcomings, but giving glory to God for loving them regardless.

Great acoustical sound mixed with rock undertones.

This is a great CD for those who enjoy a nice acoustical sound with the occasional "rock out". Typically, I prefer a harder rock cd, however, this disc keeps me intrigued. This cd will stay in the car so I can listen to it more often. Vesper Skye, you guys rock!
