Once Upon a Time in Guadalajara Mexico there was a small Jazz Club and for six nights a week all kinds of Jazz was performed by the house trio called "Via Libre" (Freeway), and fortunately for them once a month the club used to bring musicians from the States, from trumpet players, saxophone players to singers, this was great school for the trio ! so they say...this artists from USA used to play from thursday thru saturday, they were paid pretty decently and besides they were taken for a city tour as well as a gastronomical tour de force.
Great concerts took place in that little club and great audiences gathered to witnessed the unnusual events considering that this was the town where Mariachi and Tequila were born !...Sadly the country went under a pretty bad economical crisis and the ownwer had to sell the club and thus the magic ended...there hasn't been a Jazz club like this in Guadalajara since then...
This experience happened for as long as seven good years,from 1989 to 1996, and Via Libre was fortunate enough to take these artists into the Studio and document some of the best performers around, great performers like Madeline Eastman,Kitty Margolis,Joyce Cooling, Claudia Gomez etc. were also part of this ungoing party but due to tecnical problems they couldn't record at the time, but nevertheless what this CD encompasses is a great oppotunity to hear a little bit of this amazing quests,as well as one if not the best version of "In A Sentimental Mood" ever recorded,performed by The Great Richard Howell !
