the "story" behind -Victor Rasputin's The Journey-

let's go back to 2007.

to recap...at Johnson Ink., there are (at least) two different units. the performing aspect, which focuses solely on the live exploits of A. "Jay" Johnson (saxophonist & founder) and the writing/arranging aspect, which is where the group known as Victor Rasputin lives.

in order to release a CD in time for the end of the year, Jay decided to step back and give Victor Rasputin the opportunity to present their work (Jay did decide to include one song he and a really good writer/producer/arranger recorded in 2006...but that would be the extent of his musical influence). in an odd twist of fate, all of the songs written for The Journey were originally written for Jay, but a few suggestions later, the songs were all re-worked and the rest is history.

whereas The Handshake happened by chance, The Journey was a carefully planned project. it is our hope that you enjoy the CD.
