Chunkin’ is a collaboration between myself, jazz guitarist Victor Saumarez and other jazz musicians. The essence of the CD is jazz swing, and borrows from both the big band traditions and gypsy jazz typified by the relentless four-in-a-bar strumming of the guitar, hence the title “Chunkin’”. However, that is as far as the similarity goes. The solos are delivered in a very individualistic way, and showcase the various artists’ own interpretations of the many older show tunes featured on the CD.

One could perhaps be forgiven for discerning a distinctly European flavor, especially in the use of the acoustic guitar and accordion. Whilst this may be true, there is also little doubt that this somewhat unusual outing defies easy categorization.

Above all else, it is for the listeners’ pleasure that I placed the main emphasis.
