With whispers of Cat Power, Jolie Holland and Bjork, Vijaya perfects a gorgeous, subdued, stripped down, dreamy folksong quality. Her raw, vulnerable vocals curl and twist around and inside poignant guitar lines, touched here and there by delightfully eccentric little vibraphone bell tones, crying harmonica colors, pointy little background melodies and bumpy but rounded beats that at times, keep a heartbeat steadiness and at other times, lumber along with a curious quality, bumping into this and that. The hushed, introspective atmosphere of this little beauty is no less than captivating and entrancing. If any of those artist influences above rang a bell for you, this is an album not to be missed.
