Great playing--different
author: John Matro
If you're looking for something different then maybe this CD is for you. It's guaranteed that you will never have heard any of these pieces before. If the liner notes had been descriptive of each piece and the artists then it would have earned 5 stars. I would like to see more of Villadangos's Music offered on CD Baby, particularly his recording of the music of Gomez Crespo.

The superb musicianship of the masterful Argentinean guitarist, Victor Villadangos, is evident on this superb recording , “Hora Libre”, which features eighteen tracks of music that is new to us Norte Americanos . Most of the works are unpublished and by composers totally new as well. The works are absolutely delightful, from the chasquido- laden “Mal Ando” by Julio Santillán to the lovely “Adagio Elegíco” from Sergio Natali’s “Homenage Ciclico” to the hauntingly beautiful “Lago Mayor” by Pablo Gonzalez Jazey. The title piece was composed by Villadangos himself and this melody is what you hear upon arriving at his wesite. Villadangos plays with such technical brilliance, rhythmic exactness and sensitivity that is not always found in many guitarists. He is able to subtly shade his phrasing to bring out the richness of this wonderful music. This recording should be welcomed by not only guitarists but by anyone who appreciates good and interesting music performed by a true master of his instrument.
