Album Notes

In October 1997, five friends got together to play some original Christian music. The nameless band's first gig was at the New Wine Coffee House in New Port Richey, Florida. When it became apparent they had something really good going together, they decided to name their band after the place where they got their start. They became known as New Wine. They played in many local coffee houses, for the Clearwater Homeless Project, and did outreach and ministry at a juvenile boys detention facility. They led contemporary worship services for several local churches, and even played at a secular city festival. With all the members contributing to the writing process, and featuring most of them on lead vocals, their sound became very diverse - a mixture of folk, rock, jazz, blues, soulful worship, jubilant praise - and their reviews were great. The five decided to cut an album. With that, they decided to change their name, so as to not be confused with another ministry by the same name. Not wanting to change who they were, they tried many translations of New Wine - Greek (gleukos just didn't sound cool!), Hebrew, Spanish... Finally they settled on the French translation: Vin Nouveau. New Wine. Their music is as refreshing as their name.
