Originally from Philadelphia and now living between Barcelona and Dublin,
V I O L E T T A’s background is steeped in the rich Afro-American musical tradition (her father, a pianist, played on the same stage with most of the jazz greats, including Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn), a tradition she continues in the NuSoulJazz mould.
In recent years V I O L E T T A has performed in Mexico, Columbia, Spain, England, and Ireland and was a house vocalist for the Cassagrande and Metropol labels. In 2006 she was a headline act at the prestigious Barcelona GREC Festival and in 2008 V I O L E T T A was the invited performer at Barcelona’s foremost fashion event, Bread and Butter.
The music presented on this CD can be categorised as NuSoulJazz, a mix of dynamic styles, performed by V I O L E T T A and her world-class band of musicians: Grammy-selected Jaume Vilaseca on piano and keyboards, considered by many to be the most original and talented of the new Catalan jazz scene, to the partnering of two of London’s most exciting back line players, Joseph ‘The Duke’ Roberts (Corinne Bailey Rae, Eric Clapton, Sting) and Cheryl Alleyne (The Jazz Warriors, Courtney Pine).
