A cd that makes you smile!
author: Mike Jones
The latest release from Violet Truth is one of those "feel good" releases. Start to finish, the songs on here could be the soundtrack to a great summer. The opening track "Waterproof" simply cannot be heard just once, you will be hitting the repeat button over and over. As with much of this cd, Waterproof could be a huge hit. The tight rhythm section combined with unique vocals make this one of those cds you will hear in your head all day long. It was nice to hear a refreshing and positive sound on Candy Coated. Songs like "I Could Cry" "Another Lonely Girl" and "Novice" are not only tight musically, but from a lyrical standpoint as well. The writing on here has a very "close to home" vibe to it in which most of us could relate to. Vocalist Victoria is very convincing in her singing, pulling you in just a little more as each track clicks by, taking you high, low, and high again throughout the album. The production is top notch, and the cd is packaged better than most major label releases, complete with lyrics. If you are looking for a band that can make you smile, look no further than Violet Truth.

An impressive collection of heart-on-sleeve emotion swathed in imagery.
author: The Aquarian
VIOLET TRUTH / Candy Coated (CT10) An impressive collection of heart-on-sleeve emotion swathed in imagery a less-precocious Natalie Merchant might've concocted, there are moments here that transcend and literally send shivers. Masterfully produced by James (Health & Happiness Show) Mastro, Candy Coated is brimming with brooding, reflective vocals; moody, atmospheric, tunes; a hint of jangle; and deceptively gorgeous melodies that barely conceal the hurt, wonder and sweet-voiced contempt sharp, insightful, hard-hitting vocalist Victoria Crago feels for the same weak-willed, self-centered jerk Aimee Mann always seems to be whining about. - Al Muzer at The Aquarian - September 2000

"Passionate vocals, pulsing rhythm and great instrumentation."
author: Les Reynolds From Indiemusic.com
Indie-music.com - September 2000 Energetic. Flowing. Those two words come to mind on Violet Truth's 10-song release. This dynamic New Jersey group, fronted by Victoria Crago, can switch from pop rock to folk rock with ease. Victoria's voice goes right along with it. Flow. That's the word. Her soprano-alto vocals seem perfect for every tune and she exhibits a wonderful high-note range (as on the opener "Waterproof"), the down-n-dirty grit of Janis Joplin (on "Another Lonely Girl") to sounding like Heart's Ann Wilson on "Minnesota." Victoria's vocals just attach themselves to your heart and grow on you. By the time all 10 songs have been played, it's obvious that this one gorgeous voice! (It works the same with the infectious melodies, too.) Another thing that's evident is the superb, crystal clear production work -- no lyric sheet is needed. Victoria's perfect pronunciation certainly helps in that area. James Mastro has done a great job in keeping everything separate yet simultaneously creating a cohesive sound -- tight, polished and spirited. The pick for the CD's best tune? "Minnesota" -- hands down. It has the flow of a river, controlled passionate vocals, pulsing rhythm and great instrumentation. And vocals...did we say passion? Violet Truth. Remember that name. Listen to those lyrics. Hear THAT voice.

Bright and shiny electric notes over nice acoustic jangle
