ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This bi-lingual 2 CD recording is a rare treasure as it is one of very few known published recordings in the Sahaptin language. The 90 year old Native Yakama elder who recorded these legends, Virginia Beavert, has devoted her adult life to efforts to preserve her traditional Yakama culture and Sahaptin language. The recording includes a CD with 5 traditional legends Virginia recorded in English, and a second CD with the same 5 legends as told by Virginia in her native language of Sahaptin. The CD liner notes include a short bio for Virginia and short descriptions of the all of the legends - in both English & Sahaptin. [It's important to note that some of the diacritical marks for the Sahaptin language (such as the barred l's or i's) have been lost in the transference of text to the CDBaby website.]
