Album Notes

Virginia has lived most of her life in the South: South Carolina, South Australia, and Southern California. She grew up in Charleston, singing harmony with her guitar-playing brothers. In later years, she performed in talent shows, coffee shops, and at church when asked. (Musicians are always asking some girl to sing so they can play in the background.)

Virginia's studies with Nashville voice coach Susan Anders led to recording a jazz demo and a gig at Castrillo's. But she found herself humming her own tunes on the side. A year later, as Virginia was writing a novel, she kept getting interrupted by songs. So, long story short, she took eleven of her original songs to the studio and recorded Seventh Siren.

Virginia's original music has been played on air by stations based in Australia, Scotland, England and Belgium. She is a diverse artist, having appeared on stage and television as an actor and announcer in the United States and Australia. Her fiction and nonfiction have been published in literary and community publications, her plays have been performed as public readings, live theater performances and on television. Virginia's poetry was featured this year on a UK podcast and the Nashville Film Festival used her original scenes in successive years in their Film Workshop for Children. In recent years, Virginia has performed as a jazz vocalist with ensembles at commercial venues and at nonprofit benefits.

Currently, Virginia is working on new songs for her second CD while promoting Seventh Siren.

REVIEWS

Relentlessly Good
author: Matt Kenary
I have a feeling that this is one of those CD's that will keep ending up back into my player on a regular basis. The songs are wonderful all the way through and the musicianship of the players are exceptionally tight. That being said the real gem here is Virginia's voice, a throw-back style to a time when people knew how to sing and express emotions through voice. The songs here showcase that voice with traditional styles to the more jazz/blues influenced to lovely heart wrenching ballads. Basically we got top-notch songwriting, a fabulous voice, and some great violin playing throughout (courtesy of Tim Lorsch)...what more can you ask from a CD.

This is a lovely album, combining Virginaia's beautiful voice and songs with a small choir of acoustic professionals. I especially love the interplay of the fiddle work of Tim Lorsch with Virginia's voice. Every track is a work of love.

Virginia Evans offers a timeless style that is from days gone by. Having a style that reminds one of yester year when flappers and Americana were difining things to come. Her honesty in her music makes one want to light a candle and sit with a glass of wine and listen top what she has to express. Quickley one feels a 1930's flavor of yesteryear and all its seduction. What makes it special is that it is honest, and not forced. She is who she is and she precipitates with a style that is lacking today. Virginia Evans is who you want wafting through the room when you are preparing that special dinner, or are sitting by the fire. All this talent and a great personality make me give her the highest of scores!
