Virtual Dream was formed in 1994 in Rome Italy. Shortly after that the Trio begins to gain attention from the public helped by two important concerts broadcasted national-wide by Video Music (now MTV) – as well as being the opening act for Brand X during their Italian tour.
In 1997 Virtual Dream records the debut album “Sintesi” capturing the right attention from specialized music magazines, as well as the appreciation by some great musicians like Pierre Moerlen (Gong) and Percy Jones (Brand X). The album managed to get attention worldwide and the “Fusenet” newsgroup voted “Sintesi” among the best 20 fusion albums of the nineties.
After contracting with different music labels, and the joining of Pierpaolo Ranieri on Bass and Lucrezio de Seta (first solely on drums and shortly after that also as producer), Virtual Dream starts to arrange and record new material. During June 2002 the second album “CASUALITY is released. The sound of the album is heavily and equally influenced by Pierpaolo Ranieri’s use of bass effects and loops, Fabio’s guitars and Lucrezio’s drumming as well as his signature production skills. In the same period, a new CD compilation is issued featuring “Frengo” – a Virtual Dream previously unreleased track.
‘Three Views Of A Coin’ represents the synthesis of 5 years of live gigs ranging from little clubs to wide arenas, where VD managed also to appear as opening acts for artists such as Carl Palmer and Ozric Tentacles.
Lucrezio, Fabio and Pierpaolo started recording the 8 new songs in 2005 when the first musical sketches were laid down on two track. These sketches went down different stages of modification, always trying to preserve the typical PowerTrio sound as well as remaining open to adding electronics when needed. The sound is still the same, but VD fans will probably notice a more mature use of virtuosity, a less ‘in the face’ display of instrumental skills, as opposed to their previous projects.
You could summarize the sound of this third CD by Virtual Dream with the concepts of homogeneity and organic interaction, wich opens a new interesting path for the band’s future evolution.
