notes

Virtual Jungle is a creation of New York-based composer/multi-instrumentalist Lucio Rebello.
He was born in Blumenau - Santa Catarina - Brazil.
Perhaps this could partially explain the eclecticism found in his music, if one considers the incredible cultural and musical diversity of his country.
But the most accurate explanation lies in his music background, which features many different genres (Lucio graduated in 2002 from Berklee College of Music-Boston-MA, with a Bachelor's Degree in Film Scoring) .
Virtual Jungle's music is an eclectic blend o rock, electronica and jazz-funk, with some classical and Brazilian bossa-nova influences.
Its debut recording features Lucio's "impressive vocal range and great instrumental skills on the guitar, as well as on various other instruments". It also features top Brazilian drummer Mauricio Zottarelli (Marc Rossi's Jazz Quintet, Sal Di Fusco's Band) and guitarist Gustavo Assis Brasil (Guitar Player's Magazine Spotlight, The Dig Trio), a rising star in Jazz/Fusion circles, as a special guest.

  • Cinematic quality

Lucio Rebello is revealed to be quite the one-man band here, since he sings, plays various electric and acoustic guitars, bass, keyboard and also provides programming. There is a distinct jazz-fusion vibe to what Rebello creates under the artist name Virtual Jungle. He graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in film scoring, which helps explain the sometimes cinematic quality of many of these tracks. His advanced musical education especially shows through during “How Far Would You Go (For Love),” mainly because of its complicated rhythms. His jazz roots are displayed front and center with “Lost And Found," due to its nicely swinging rhythms. There is a distinctly high and vulnerable quality to his singing. His songs are primarily light and airy love odes. (And by the way, it’s nearly impossible to hear any hint of an accent in his voice. In fact, you’d never guess that he was born outside the United States). This CD will appeal to those who enjoy jazz-influenced pop or pop-influenced jazz. Or whatever you want to call this particular musical intersection.

  • Melodies that will tug at your heartstrings

I guarantee the first thing you’ll notice about this album is the fluid smooth vocals that emanate a unique soul. Brazilian born composer/multi-instrumentalist Lucio Rebello is the man responsible for most everything. Often people that are talented with a variety of instruments can’t sing a lick but that’s certainly just a cliché here as Lucio belts out melodies that will tug at your heartstrings. The music is a tinge of jazz and electronica with pop-rock firmly in hand. Since the music is as good as it is you shouldn’t be surprised that he’s the product of the highly touted Berklee College of Music in Boston. I swear that school just molds musicians into Grammies these days.
