Album Notes

Whether she's doing an instrumental disco number, a fast-paced pleasure samba or a poignant lament of love and loss, Viva has a phenomenal way of expressing emotion, sexiness and humor that has listeners across the country saying, "Let me hear that thing again!"

"Viva Makes It Round" is the stunning first release of Brooklyn-based recording artist and performer Vivian DeConcini.

It is a breath of remarkably fresh air in the stale world of sappy singer songwriters who wouldn't know a groove if hit them below the belt.

She drives many of her songs with the pulsating backbeat of the Brazilian bass drum known as the Surdo, and with just a snare drum and a tambourine, will have you asking, "Who's that drummer?"

Then she adds the guitar, sometimes electric wa-wa (groove, groove, groove) sometimes smooth nylon style romantic harmonies and sometimes both combine to form a lush environment for your soul to relax and take comfort in.

On top of all this the voice, slipping word ideas into your skull floating and grinding until you tingle with delight. That which is round cannot be square!

Viva's written some amazing songs on this CD - my personal favourites lyrically are San Francisco, Girl in a Boat (which you end up singing in your head again and again - but not in a bad way), and Since U Been Gone - but each song offers something different. You can tell that Viva's been influenced by many sources, and thankfully has introduced them into her diverse sound.
