Jazz vocalist and recording artist Vivian Lee is truly a child of the world having grown up in a military family, then pursuing a military career herself. She specializes in the standards - Gershwin, Ellington, Berlin, James, Jobim, and the like. Her main venue has been the cabaret/supper clubs and nightclubs such as Cascades and Kirby's in Nevada City, and Lou's on Pier 47 in San Francisco. She has also performed at the Stockmarket Lounge and Grill and the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee.
Ms Lee has been a vocalist in the Sacramento area for the last nine years and is making the rounds as guest vocalist with some of the Sacramento, Bay area and L.A's finest musicians. She has also had the great fortune to play with legendary drummer Ed Thigpen.
Her smoky voice will work its way into your soul. Her phrasing and lyrical interpretation makes her very popular with all that hear her. Her rapport with the audience is extraordinary as she pulls them into the world she creates around her music.
In 1999 she formed the Vivian Lee Quintet and has been drawing in audiences to experience the magic from Lake Tahoe to the Bay area. She has assembled an all-star ensemble of players, which include pianist Tom Whinnery, bassist Darrell Fernandez, guitarist Glenn Hair, saxophonist David Witkowski and drummer Butch Minor. For the past couple of years, Vivian and her combo have performed at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee to standing- room-only venues.
In addition to her combo work around the area Vivian is also a recording artist whose 2000 debut CD, "Scarlett", and 2002 release, "Where is Love", have been receiving some extensive airplay on some of the public radio jazz stations. She recently released her third project "Have You Met Miss Lee?" that is making its' round of national public radio jazz stations
Vivian is the main vocalist for the Fred Morgan Big Band, a 16-piece big band playing at hotels and festivals throughout the Northern California area.
Miss Lee is also the driving force behind a local Sunday Jazz Club venture that features the area's finest jazz musicians as well as giving monthly donations to help promote local high school jazz.

This is well known Sacramento vocalist Vivian Lee's third CD and by far her best. She has surrounded herself with some of Sacramento's top flight jazz musicians and like the lady herself, sings with a quiet passion and tenderness that tells you she has experienced the emotions pouring forth through the lyrics. In the classic It Never Entered My Mind, you can almost feel the tears flowing in her phrasing of this sad but beautiful piece, sung by one who has been there.
Due credit to the following musicians: Darrell Fernandez, Paul Klempau, Tom Whinnery, Matt McFarland, Tommy Cain, David Witkowski , Steve Roach and Glen Hair. Superb jazz men in their own right, they combine to add a first class touch to this recording. So, kick your shoes off, sit back and relax and tune your ears to the voice of Vivian Lee, a lady who sings with passion, feeling and overall respect for the pieces she has chosen. You will not be disappointed.

No, I guess we haven't met "Miss Lee." Willis and I know our favorite Jazz Diva, Vivian, very well but this Miss Lee is a wonderful surprise and we are so happy to meet her and bring her home to fill our house with the cool intimate sounds of jazz.
Miss Lee's gifted recording showcases her smoky delivery of some age-old classics that will never wear out their welcome with us. Her soulfulness and the creative input from the musicians makes "Have You Met Miss Lee" a welcome addition to our extensive collection of quality jazz. She sings each song like she has something personal to say. Well, sing on, Miss Lee! Willis and I are listening.
Congratulations, Miss Lee, we love you.

This CD is truly an outstanding effort by every participant. First of
all, you have put together a collection oftunes which suits your quality
voice and style, and a variety of interesting introductions and endings.
The Nature Boy flugel horn opening was entrancing, and your bass players
provided provacative starters and a beautiful bow selection. You have
two fine tenor sax solos, remarkable pianists, but my bouquets go to
your faithful sidekick and excellent guitarist, Glenn Hair! With your
velvet rich voice, Vivian, and Glenn's mastery of nuance and feeling in
accompaniment, you have a winner of a CD! My particular favorites are
"It Could Happen to You", "You Don't Know What Love Is", and "Estate".
Congratulations on your newly released CD, "Have You Met Miss Lee?"
Who wouldn't want to know her.
