Jazz vocalist and recording artist Vivian Lee is truly a child of the world having grown up in a military family, then pursuing a military career herself. She specializes in the standards – Gershwin, Ellington, Berlin, James, Jobim, and the like. Her main venues have been the cabaret/supper clubs and nightclubs such as The Delta King Riverboat and Savanna’s in Sacramento, and Moody’s Bistro in Truckee. She has also been a mainstay at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee.
Ms Lee has played with such notable musicians as bassists Bill Douglass and Bootza Nacek, drummer Ed Thigpen, and pianist Joe Gilman. She has assembled a top notch ensemble of players, who together with her unique style, phrasing and magical stage presence have been captivating audiences from Lake Tahoe to the Bay area. Known for her story-telling and banter with the audience she will pull you into the world that she creates on stage.
As a recording artist she has released three CDs - her 2000 debut CD, “Scarlett”, 2002 release, “Where is Love”, and 2004 “Have You Met Miss Lee?” all of which have made the rounds of national public radio jazz stations.
The twice SAMMIE (Sacramento area music awards) nominated Miss Lee is also the driving force behind a local Sunday Jazz Club venture at Savanna’s (Red Lion Hotel) that features the area’s finest jazz musicians as well as regional and national touring jazz groups passing through Sacramento. She also is part of an ongoing program, giving monthly donations to help promote local high school jazz.

Another basketful of new favourite songs!
author: Geoff Norris
Thank you CD Baby (and Vivian) for providing a convenient outlet so lovers of jazz vocals may easily source these beautiful albums. Vivian’s 3 CD’s are not readily available in Australia or most places outside the US really, and at present not even a single copy of any of them is available on eBay anywhere in the world! Once you get one, you will hang on to it too, as each one is a treasure bursting with charming songs and deliciously warm vocals, guaranteed to provide on-going indulgence.
This swinging second album continues where “Scarlett” left off: another basketful of new favourite songs – all tastefully delivered with discerning and insightful arrangements, and supportive and absorbing accompaniment. This one together with her third CD (“Have you met Miss Lee?”) demonstrates that Vivian is at the top of her game with impeccable taste in material and sincere and meaningful delivery.
There has been plenty written in the various CD Baby reviews of the third album, and I am happy to endorse anything positive that anyone could say about Vivian, but really now I am looking forward to the next trip to the studio so we can all capitalise on the combination of her mature judgement and youthful exuberance while she and the band are really hot!. Actually checking out those You Tube links makes me think that there would be enough material for a live album before the next studio outing. How about it Vivian?
