When one thinks of indie folk music from New York City, a banjo usually doesn't come to mind ~ but Vladeck's version is playful and soulful and unlike anything you've heard.

BIOGRAPHY

Singer/Songwriter and native New Yorker Andrew Vladeck is a fixture on the New York music scene, recently winning First Place 2007 International Songwriting Competition and multiple Honors from the Billboard Song Contest. He was voted NYC Band of the Month by readers of The Deli Magazine earlier this year before disappearing into the studio to record a new album. Over the past year, Vladeck has toured from Boston to Chapel Hill and, on the local level, has started performing at the Bowery Ballroom, played the East River Bandshell (with David Johansen), as well as the Best of the Living Room and the Best of Arlene Grocery concerts.

A former NYC Urban Park Ranger, Vladeck started hot-wiring beat-up instruments because he loved their vibe but wanted more juice to play them at clubs. The result combines the modern with the historical, with his music lying somewhere between indie and folk. At times it’s as if The White Stripes, Jonathan Richman, and Beck fell into a blender and was spit out by Bob Dylan. Vladeck is especially regarded for his well-crafted songs and his unique rock banjo sound. Vladeck is also a member of The Honey Brothers.

Spectacularly Spunky

So sublime and spectacularly spunky. What a sound! I am rather stingy and typically suffer from buyer's remorse with any purchase ... but not with this one. For more of this music, I would gladly part with more of my dollars. It was worth far more than my $12.97.

This CD is an essential for any road trip or foot hike or general bum sitting. Everyone I lend this CD to fakes their own death to avoid giving it back. Even in the snap of a British winter Chinatown makes me feel like I need to languish on the banks of the River Mersey, and dip one toe in to keep cool. But when it comes to my favourite, you can't beat You Can't Kill time, for making you wish that you had an 8th of the fingersmith talent of the fine Mr A Vladeck.

The CD I've bought this year

I judge music the way anyway else who isn't a critic would. There are three elements that you need - lyrics, voice, and the instruments to back them up. Andrew Vladek's new CD ranks at the top in all three categories. Buy this CD today - it's well worth the $10.00 that CD Baby is so graciously offering it to you for.
