Album Notes

Vladimirs formed in 1995 as a side project by members of- Bad Samaritans (Brian Day), Thorns OF The Carrion (Marquis Thomas), Estuary (Ash Thomas), The Blame (Doug Nevels). The four decided to get together to do some music that was more loose with a 'campy-horror-movie' and 'classic 50's sci-fi' feel lyrically. The first s/t cd 'Vladimirs' was released in January of 1995 and is regarded by many as the '2nd Wave' of horror punk. With elements of punk, metal, goth, and rock the Vladimirs drew a large and diverse audience. Interest in the band from fans was so great that they knew this was bigger than just a side project. They took to the road and the name grew. The first cd is still out of print, highly sought after, and in some circles considered a classic. The Vladimirs went on to record 6 full length cd's and MANY appearances on compilations, tributes, 7"s, Lp's, movie soundtracks, and one-off rarities. The release of the newest 'Serpent Girl & Songs To Shed The Skin' cd on Blood And Guts Records marks the Vlads return to their roots. With catchy sing-along choruses and lyrics dark, sometimes humorous, and sometimes disturbing 'Serpent Girl' will prove itself to be a classic. Many bands exist in this genre but the Vladimirs are more diverse in their musical styles (drawing from many influences, not just punk) and they don't just write a song describing a horror movie that they have seen. They invade the mind of the listener or invite the listener to invade the mind of the band to experience the true horror that lies beneath the surface...the horror that is everywhere !!!

legacy of hard-rocking, blood-swilling ill intentions

Featuring members of the Blame, Estuary and Bad Samaritans, the Vladimirs have a legacy of hard-rocking, blood-swilling ill intentions. From the '50s horror of "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" to offensive rampage killings on "Death of the Party," these strapping young Vlads explore that carnival of sensuality and repulsion inside all of us. -- Skidmore (www.westword.com)

The vocals are right on the mark as with the band

Here is a band that released a few demo/EP’s over the years and now Blood and Guts picked them up to show that an older style of music is till thriving out there. Vlad definitely make it known that they are making it more like the Misfits and Glen Danzig. The vocals are so like that. The music has its punk side. Then the bands images are that of Vampires, Blood and the dark. If you are looking for a horror punk record like that then don’t go anywhere. “Serpet Girl” opens up this record with some fury as it goes into a catchier track in “Death Of the Party”. The vocals are right on the mark as with the band. So as you would guess the sound stays in that mould through the record. Other songs offered on this ten song record are “Pictures Of Suzy”, “The Withering”, “Has Been That Never Was” and “Nobody No More”. Hammerheadzine.com

...blows away anything Type O could put together...

There's a cat named Jerry Only who should really hear these guys. You see, Jerry's been helming this band of Misfits for years know, and can't figure out why people keep walking out of his shows. The Vladimirs are dark and heavy like a beatnik, y'all. They've got a perfectly tasteless number that's sure to draw controversy entitled "Death Of The Party," about a high schooler murdering his bullies. While "She's Been Worshipping the Devil" is one of the funniest death-rock moments since, well, ever. A '50s lost-my-girlfriend song declaring "I asked her out for a Friday night/ I thought she might like to dance/ but all she did was go off on a rant/ about how Christ was buried in some church in France." The straight songs get increasingly better until the dramatic grand finale, "Pictures of Suzy," which blows away anything Type O could put together. Morbid, magnificent, gentle, and violent epic, this is an intricately crafted masterpiece.
