Album Notes

In 1998, the members of Voces Novae had the opportunity to take a musical and spiritual journey. This journey has sometines carried us far away form the musical conventions and spiritual assumptions that we had become accustomed to over a lifetime. As we proceeded along this adventure, we found many new friends; both here in the Louisville Jewish community and in the rich choral tradition of the Jewish people. We took part in Shabbat and learned to dance the hora. We experienced music from the Israeli folk tradition and Jewish liturgy. We remembered the Holocaust through Yom HaShoah and Kristallnacht commemorations.

It is difficult, if not impossible, for us to express our excitement, gratitude, and honor ar being invited to join Louisville's Jewish community for the many musical experiences which culminated in this recording. The insight and prespective that we have gained in our preparation for this CD will color out thoughts and open our eyes for a lifetime. If we are able to become a mirror, to reflect and return to you a fraction of what we have gained through our experiences, then this will be our most successful musical experience ever.
