Spectacular R & B Oldies in Accapella
Voices of Babylon features six male voices, ranging from deep bass, mid bass, up to tenor and above in falsetto. The singing here is the original sound of early rock and roll, which is really a lost art form, today, in 2010. The rhythm and blues vocal group sound of yesterday is what you'll hear in this collection. If you enjoy harmony and ear catching melodies, this is a must hear CD for you. It contains songs written by Motowns Smokey Robinson, Sam Cooke, and other great singers and composers.
The Temptations hits can now be heard on Youtube, singing Accapella, which is voice without musical instruments. Their rendition of Smokey Robinsons, "Whose loving you" is nothing short of spectacular. You can also hear "My Girl", "Get Ready" and "Aint too proud to beg", minus the instruments.
This CD, by VOB is also Accapella and the quality of the vocals are definitely impressive. Bruce Mineo is VOB's lead singer. His voice is capable of a soft, sensitive sound on one song, and passionate raw power on another. His vocal range is off the charts. He sings comfortably within four octaves. It's like one person with two sets of vocal cords.
One summer night, the Spinners appeared on Long Island, at a night spot called Key Largo. It was there that Bruce had the pleasure of singing with lead singer John Edwards of "Cupid", and "Working my way back to you"fame. In the middle of the song, Edwards stopped singing, turned to Bruce and asked, "who are you"? "should I know who you are"? He was surprised and impressed with Bruce's vocal ability. The compliment meant a lot to Bruce, because John is one of his all time favorite singers.
Bruce's background vocals have been circulating around the world on a few CD's for the past ten years or so, but now, he's decided that it was his time to get up front and fully express himself vocally.
The songs here were done with enormous respect and admiration for the singers and composers who created this wonderful music, so listen, enjoy, and sing along with the Voices of Babylon.
From Bruce: A Special shout out to singers: Ronnie Keith, Joe Ashford, Phil Cooper, Lou Miceli, Peter Mineo, Kenny Fulkerson, Plineo Ruiz, Kenny Lewis, Eddie Ward, Tommy Ward, Phil Giarratano, Michele Martin, Spyder Turner, Rich Bartolotta, Ralph Vitale, Howard Kaye.
A special dedication goes to Lou Miceli, who took a shy, insecure kid (me), and showered me with compliments and encouragement in the beginning. Without him, I would never have done my thing. His smile of approval, whenever I sang, stays in my mind. I love him for it, and I carry his picture with me, always.
