Album Notes

Vulgar Pang is a unique power rock ensemble out of the Midwest. Formed around the diverse songwriting and gothic baritone of frontman Craig Hawkinson, Vulgar Pang brings a manic blend of rock with elements of funk, punk, and metal...occasionally laying back into the realm of acoustic ballads.

VP's debut, "Pleasures of Schizophrenia" is a diverse plummet into the mind of a man coming to terms with who he is and what the truth is about his soul. Changing shapes as the does the vampire he sees himself as in the opening track "Vardoulacha", his evolution takes him from artist to lover to libertine to drunk to revolutionary, never giving up the hope of resolving himself and the world he lives in, ultimately realizing the revolution begins from within. The many faces of rock and roll are used to express his rotating emotions, from the lonely wandering of "Divided by Zero" to the intense desire of "Into You" to the comical bitterness of "Bender" to the edge of discovery in the Burroughs-influenced "Tangier".

From the inside out...Vulgar Pang instigates a revolution of the mind and soul...by embracing the madness of rock and roll.

Buy this CD. Some cool stuff on this recording. It's funny, sad, deep and poignant. I laughed, I rocked, I cried. Craig Hawkinson is an interesting soul. Scary, yet warm. Like Jesus with a gun. Everything about this CD makes you want to listen to it over and over again. It's a unlimited ride on the orgasm machine.

Intense and smart - incredible album. . .

One can sense the heart and soul that went into these tracks. Songs are powerful and original. Track 1, Vardoulacha, starts off the CD with a kicky jazz beat and then blasts into Sabbath-esque darkness that is reminiscent of standing in line at a haunted house in a cold and windy dusk. Last track, Valentine Jesus, is beautiful, poignant, and undeniably sad set to a simple yet eloquent acoustic background. The remainder of tracks morph from one to the next effortlessly yet brilliantly, vastly different in styles but sharing a common persona as the artist explores and comes to terms. Check out Into You's rich-sounding, melodic undertones. I dig Celebrate Yourself, with it's infectious groove and lyrics that just may initiate your own self-reflection. This one reminds me why I love songs that do so much more than just rhyme. Bender is a ridiculously fun punk tune - a tale exposing bitterness (and the pursuit of booze) that so many of us can relate to. I'm truly impressed with the music and artistry represented here on Pleasures. Chameleon music, yet magically remaining true to the heart and soul of Vulgar Pang and the artist's purpose. A MUST in today's shallow, bubble-gum society. BUY IT.
