Album Notes

WEST AFRICAN HIGHLIFE BAND

The West African Highlife Band brings together an all-star group of distinguished West African music veterans for a unique celebration of the incomparable West African highlife and 'Palmwine' dance hits of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
Highlife music ruled the West African club scene before the disco era, and this special band pays tribute to its pioneers, with the lilting harmonies and infectious rhythms that motivated the feet of a generation of African youth. The atmosphere is intense and intoxicating as featured musicians
Babá Ken Okulolo, Soji Odukogbe, Rasaki Aladokun, Pope Flyne, Nii Armah Hammond, and Lemi Barrow put out their rare and beautiful music.
Baba Ken Okulolo, first seen in the U.S. with King Sunny Ade's African Beats, was five times named Nigeria's top bassist. A modern musician with deep roots in Nigerian traditional music, Baba Ken also leads the Afrobeat band KOTOJA, and the acoustic folk group The NIGERIAN BROTHERS.
