WALKER BIOGRAPHY
A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin Mike Walker got his first guitar as a Christmas gift from his father at age 12. By 14 he had his first paying job as an opening act at Pappy's Restaurant in the Bay Shore Shopping Center.
In the 70's he performed in and around the Milwaukee area with another guitarist/singer as "Two's Company." By 1980, with the addition of a bass player and drummer, the band became "Legend" but saw little success.
In 1982, Walker moved to Davenport, Iowa to attend
chiropractic college. During that time he played the Quad Cities college circuit as a trio named "Blue Horizon" and a duo called "Buckshot" Upon graduation, "Doctor"Walker moved to Colorado Springs ultimately settling in Woodland Park, Colorado where he built and operated a successful chiroropractic practice.Through the mid-90s he played little, but was bitten by the music bug again in 1997.
In 1999 and again in 2000, Walker was hired by the Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Partnership in Colorado Springs to perform as a street musician. He plays frequently at Woodland Perk coffee shop in Woodland Park, Borders Books, Mueller State Park and the CO Springs Airport as a part of their "Cultural Gateway to the Rockies" program. Walker was the featured performer in August 2000 at the Mountain Acoustic Music Association's monthly concert series at the Ute Pass Cultural Center and played the CO Springs Fine Arts Center for their "Hyperartivity" program. In June 2000 Walker released
his first CD of all original material. In August 2003 Walker released his next CD "The Great Reality."
Playing cover songs by James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg, Neil Young and John Denver as well as many originals, Walker says, "The desire to create, play and sing fills a deeply rooted need in me. It's a selfish endeavor but when I connect with the audience...that is my true passion."
