Album Notes

WALK THE MOON. The moment this band walked into the studio of producer Erwin Musper (David Bowie, Elton John, Van Halen) an important relationship was forged. "I honestly thought that superb songwriting was a thing of the past," Musper remarked. "These guys proved me wrong." Six months and thirteen tracks later, Walk the Moon is decidedly hungry for the future.

Their debut 2008 release "The Anthem EP" consists of four radio-ready tracks from their sessions with Musper at his Bamboo Room Studio in Northern Kentucky. On it, Walk the Moon embraces a sound that is like nothing anyone has heard in a long time. Charged by evocative, piano-driven songwriting and dynamic rock arrangements, W/M's songs are centered distinctively around soulful melodies and multiple, multiple hooks. Additionally, string quartet arrangements by frontman and keyboardist Nicholas Petricca electrify the synth-rocker "Stone Cold Fox" and disco-flirtatious "Angeline," while Petricca's vocals are often surrounded by thick, three-part harmony.

From song to song, the sound of the keys transforms from growling synths to the shimmering Hammond organ to the husky, vintage Rhodes EP. Meanwhile, unabashed lyrics in tracks like McCartney-esque "Anthem" or shameless "Jenny's Got a . . ." give the music of W/M a compelling sense of longevity.

With the release of The Anthem EP, Walk the Moon looks forward to label-shopping, local and college radio campaigns, and opening in April for international headliner Sugarcult while they prepare for their tour to Los Angeles, Chicago, and other cities in summer 2008. W/M is young and candidly ambitious. Musper warns the competition: "Message to the other bands out there - you're ten steps behind and it will be really hard to catch up."
