Album Notes

" Matt Walsh...Soulful playing, great vocals...It's great to hear young musicians playing in the tradition. That's the only way the Blues will stay alive "

- Paul Oscher ( former harmonica player for Muddy Waters, Blues harmonica legend and 2006 BMA award winner "Acoustic Artist of the Year" for 'Down in the Delta' )

Matt Walsh has left a trail of rave reviews, hailing Blues fans and enough performance dates to fill about 200 plus days out of the year for the near decade he has spent as a professional musician.

Inspired by guitarists like Muddy Waters,Jimmy Rogers,Willie Johnson, Robert Lockwood,Johnny Guitar Watson,Eddie Taylor,Robert Nighthawk and T-Bone Walker, Matt brings the Old School through while kicking off enough dust to make it his own.

Album reviews:

Blues Root
Jake Dickerson
(2004)

"This is a good, yet raw 1st effort, but even so, what really pulls the album through is the strength of original tunes like 'The Detective' and 'Doin' Time'. The tracks show a mature and imaginative writer who is not confined to the usual Blues chiche lyrics that we're all familiar with. Matt's guitar playing is very effective on all of the 11 tracks. He never over plays or noodles and he is obviously well schooled in many old Blues styles. Walsh also pays close attention to the mood of his instrument as it relates to each song and it's theme."

Up and Coming Weekly Magazine ( North Carolina )
Brian Dukes
2004

"and while distinct and impacting vocals are the key to a bluesman, it's Walsh's ability to craft what Blues do best - make you feel something - that really sets him apart from any number of second circuit Blues artists. Walsh's songwriting, while still young, is rooted in the ages-old traditions of Blues music...Walsh knows his Blues, almost as much as he knows his guitar, which he masterfully works using a finger-picking style as well as a slide".

Matt was recently hailed by former Muddy Waters guitarist Bob Margolin in the Aug / Sept issue of the nation wide publication, Blues Revue :

Blues Revue Magazine
By Bob Margolin
Aug / Sept 2006

“They love Old School Chicago Blues and have both already gone a long way towards playing it with authentic tone and command of the guitar language. Both of them can sing it too, and improve every time I hear them. They are young today and will keep this style alive on bandstands and preserve it as and preserve it as more than history. They may develop so much themselves that they carry the style forward with their own contributions.”

- Bob Margolin ( former guitarist for Muddy Waters band and columnist for Blues Revue interview with Matt Walsh and Matt Hill Aug/Sept 06 )
