Walter Williams, Sr. has delivered iconic recorded performances and chart topping Soul/R&B hits as a member of the legendary R&B group "The O'Jays" for an unprecedented 51 years. During the later years of the O'Jays distinguished career The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer had planned on releasing a solo project. Walter considered different standards trying to find the perfect blend of classics that would be the right fit for his gifted voice. It took a number of years but the time has finally arrived and Walter Williams "Exposed" is now complete. “I think I’ve found what I consider to be a great collection of classics", Mr. Williams states about his debut solo release. "I chose these songs because I really love them and have since I first heard those years ago. I truly believed that I could do them justice in the studio. Well, I think I have and I hope that the listeners think so too!” Williams delivers soulful takes on such standards as Bill Withers R&B classic "Ain't No Sunshine", "My Way" popularized by Frank Sinatra (with backing vocals from Eddie Levert), the jazz standard "Nature Boy" originally recorded by Nat King Cole and many more. This set also includes the lead single "It's Raining Outside" written by Williams. "Exposed" by Walter Williams is a "must have" collector’s item for fans that have followed his distinctive vocal style through the years.
Thanks for reviewing this album! You should see it show up on the album page in a few days.
You know Walter Williams, one of the lead singers for The O'Jays. Listen to many of their hits, Walter leads a lot of them despite that most people equate the hits only with Eddie Levert. Not so fast: "Love Train" is co-led by Walter and Eddie. "Use To Be My Girl"? That's Walter on the lead through and through. And now one of the greatest singers ever brings a solo album with some original hits and many standards. Walter also produces most of the tunes, showing he's as adept in the studio as he is with a microphone. "It's Raining Outside" -- the album's first tune -- is written by Walter and it's excellent. The other original tune, "There's No Doubt" leaves no doubt about Walter's talent as a singer and songwriter. The rest of the album is standards or classic soul hits and he aces all of them. I'd say the highlights are "Ain't No Sunshine" (the great Bill Withers tune) and "Love Won't Let Me Wait" (the fabulous Major Harris song). True singing by a living legend. This is a tremendous album one of the greatest singers ever. Read more...
