Wanda King is definitely her daddy's daughter. Both onstage and offstage she's a woman in charge and in control. Especially with her music. This is Wanda's second self-released CD but it will also probably be her last. Last to be self-released, not last CD! While Wanda has built a faithful following around her Dallas/Fort Worth home, this CD is destined to lead her on to bigger audiences, wider acclaim, and the record deal she so much deserves. While the progeny of other big name blues stars often follow their parent's style and playlist closely, Wanda goes her own way, singing the blues as she feels them, not the way someone else expects. Yes, Wanda inherited more than her father's "big wide grin", she also got his love and feeling for the blues and you can hear it in every number on this CD. These songs are all Wanda King originals and the songs come from her own life and stories she sees happening around her every day. These are the blues for today, not her father's blues, and that's really the way it should be. Contemporary stories, with a traditional feel and backing by some of the best musicians in Texas. I think Freddie would be proud.

Songs In The Key Of Blues is my second CD. It is music I grew up listening to, urban blues and delta blues, R&B, soul, zedyco, jump and Texas swing. I developed my singing style from female singers such as Etta James, Billie Holiday. Then there is Tina Turner raw and gritty, for soul it is Aretha and Gladys, for gospel take it to the lord in prayer Mavis Staple is the one, for country blues its Patsy Cline and Dolly Pardon, finally when I am feeling elegant it is Ella and Sarah.
I also own up to singing the blues like my father (Freddie King ) he was a great singer.
Lyrics of my songs are moments in my life as a participant and observer.
The musicians I work with are world class. I greatly appreciate each and everyone of them.
Robert" Texas Slim" Sullivan, Chris Ruest, Danny Cochran and Eric Przygocki (Matthew)
A special thanks to Shawn Phares, Christian Dozzler and Ron Jones.

I've always agreed that "writing about music is like dancing about architecture." It's kind of a pointless exercise. Music shouldn’t be written about and read about, it should be listened to and enjoyed. That being said, I will write to urge you to experience Wanda King’s CD, Songs In The Key Of Blues.
I first heard Wanda sing back in the early 1970’s when she was just a kid. Even then, her voice had a raucous power that belied her years. On Songs In The Key Of Blues, the power is still there, but there’s a level of control now that only comes with years of life experience. Wanda’s voice, like good single malt scotch has gotten better with age. Of course having musicians like “Texas Slim” Sullivan and Chris Ruest backing her up only makes this CD all the more enjoyable.
Add Songs In The Key Of Blues to your CD collection as soon as possible.
