Album Notes

Warren Appleby’s seventh CD, IRON FORGED IN FIRE, combines a touch of modern Prog-Metal with the Classic Metal traditions found on his previous CD, Soul Crushing Discipline (also available at CD Baby). Fans of Prog-Metal, Classic Metal, and Hard Rock new to Warren’s music will learn what long time fans have always known – this guy ROCKS HARD!!!

Warren brings crushing metal riffs, heavy rhythms, and tasteful solo’s, inspired by his hero’s Michael Schenker, Brian May, and Ritchie Blackmore to the IRON FORGED IN FIRE cd. Listening to lots of Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, and Rush this past year has inspired Warren to add some very cool synthesizer and acoustic guitar soundscapes to complement the pounding metal tracks. Listen close and you’ll also hear a few vocal tracks thrown in for good measure!!!

An accomplished guitarist and bassist, Warren plays all instruments on IRON FORGED IN FIRE. All tracks are original compositions with the exception of the bonus tenth track – a very cool metallized version of the holiday classic – Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.

Warren cut his teeth during the metal heyday of the 1980’s with American riff monsters – BLACKTASK. Fans of Blacktask will love Warren’s remake of their classic track “Rip!”, found on the IRON FORGED IN FIRE cd titled as “Rip in the 21st Century”.

Warren’s CDs have received high praises from music sites/publications – Metallian, MetalCore Fanzine, Detritus, Metal Dreams, & Guitar Noise. Japanese radio shows Yellowbeat and Gone Fishing for Blue Skies have made Warren’s music a staple of their weekly programs. Find out more be checking out Warren’s three websites - www.warrenappleby.com, www.myspace.com/warrenappleby, & www.blacktask.net.

If you’re sick to death of the processed, corporate sound of those American Idol losers – and you just want some honest, killer metal – then you must own IRON FORGED IN FIRE!!!

Excellent progressive rock from Warren Appleby!

“Iron Forged in Fire” almost sets new standards! This is IMHO Appleby’s best work so far, and that pretty much says it all. Warren plays all instruments on IRON FORGED IN FIRE. HOW ABOUT THAT? What a musician, composer and songwriter he is, and his guitar work is awesome! The other two authors have already said what must be said, so I’ll keep this short. Conclusion; if you want to buy a really excellent outstanding progrock CD, buy this one! Don’t forget to check Warren Appleby’s other CD’s here at CD Baby. 5 STARS!

This would be like if Thin Lizzy injected some metal to their sound!

Warren is back with another does of rock n roll mixed in with some heavy metal. This would be like if Thin Lizzy injected some metal to their sound. The music is very moody at times and really sucks you in at times. Warren evens brings back Blacktask and does a tune from their "Long After Midnight" release as well, which was a cool surprise to this Blacktask fan. 10 tunes here and these are really rockin tunes that not a lot of bands are doing nowadays and this is like a breath of fresh air on a warm summer's day.

This is Warren Appleby's most progressive recording yet!
author: Metallian (from the July 2007 issue)

. The prolific former Blacktask man’s latest recording might bear a more forceful title than past recordings, feature a red-hot guitar on the cover and include a biography citing Thin Lizzy, UFO and Deep Purple as influences, but make no mistake this is the man’s most complex and progressive recording yet.
