Warren Hatfield’s homage to Paul Desmond (his CD “SMILE”) has just received six nominations in four categories for the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences 2008 Grammy Awards: 1)BEST JAZZ INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP; 2) BEST ENGINEERED ALBUM; 3) BEST INSTRUMENTAL ARRANGEMENT (John Cacavas for “Smile” and “Laura”—Don Sebesky for “You Can’t Go Home Again”} 4) BEST JAZZ INSTRUMENTAL SOLO (Jim Linahon on trumpet for “You Can’t Go Home Again)

"On this CD I have respectfully attempted to capture the essence of Paul Desmond's playing" Hatfield states. The album features saxophone, a jazz rhythm section and strings performing 12 of the most revered classic standards in the repertoire: Smile, Laura, Body & Soul, Just Squeeze Me e.g. Critics have hailed the album as an artistic triumph.(See Grammy Award announcement above) Hatfield recommends that the listener pour a glass of fine wine or a dry martini, relax and listen to some world class music and performances on this CD. Warren "Doc" Hatfield has been a highly acclaimed woodwind
performer and educator for over 40 years. He has performed with a veritable "who's who" of jazz artists and is Professor of Music Emeritus from South Dakota State University.

Doc presently resides in Phoenix, Arizona where is a freelance performer, clinician, and private studio instructor. He is the musical director of a ten-piece band, “DEJA VU”. He is on call with several musical groups, performing with stars such as Ray Charles Hatfield has recorded three CDs with a number of top Los Angeles based musicians. He recently was a session musician for a recording with Italian trumpet artist Andrea Tofanelli at the LMP Studios in Claremont, California.

His CD, “Smile” was recorded with an elite studio string section in Los Angeles and featured world-renown composer, arranger and conductor John Cacavas, as well as pianist Tom Ranier, bassist Adrian Rosen, trumpeter Jim Linahon, trombonist Jeff Tower and guitarist Tom Hynes.The CD was recorded in the Grammy nominated world-class LMP STUDIOS in Claremont, California.
