Album Notes

The Watanabes are a Tokyo indie rock band consisting of British brothers, Duncan and Selwyn Walsh on guitars and vocals, New Zealander Ashley Davies on bass and Flavio Jerome from Belgium on drums.

The band formed in the provincial Japanese paradise of Ehime in Spring 2005. However, a national Japan tour soon gave them a taste of band life in the capital, and by August 2007 The Watanabes were a Tokyo band.

Independent Social Power, their debut album, was recorded at KRH studios in Harajuku, and was released in November 2008. One year in the making, it includes 10 tracks of Indie pop/rock, with the lyrics and vocal melody proudly out front. It comes in a fold out card jacket, with design from a local Tokyo artist.
