Some call it Newgrass ... others call it Americana ... still others call it Smokin' Grass ... but Acoustic Mayhem is perhaps the term that best sums up the vibe of this guitar / mandolin / fiddle / bass & brushy drums quintet.

notes

The music features acoustic guitar, mandolin, fiddle, standup bass and brushy
drums with harmony vocals ... but what do you call it? 'Americana'? 'Newgrass'?
'Crabgrass,' maybe?

'Acoustic Mayhem' is the term that best sums up the sound of The Waybacks ... it's everything from Kumbaya-free folk to cowboy jazz to bluegrass, old-time, Tin Pan Alley, both country and western, Celtoid, agnostic gospel, rhumba, beat poetry, space-jam and Grappelli-esque swing, as well as eccentric originals.

  • Loved it! So I bought it for a good friend...

I had the pleasure of listening to many songs on DEVOLVER in person at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS last Fall and I bought my CD on the spot. My favorite song is I Wan'na Be Like You which always puts me in a good mood. I also really enjoy McHattie's Waltz. My friend just recently got interested in Bluegrass and is trying to learn to play the banjo. She received DEVOLVER from me and said "That CD was absolutely wonderful!"

  • Great stuff for you acoustic lovers out there.

This is some of the best stuff I've heard in a long time from a group that specializes in acoustic music. It's hard to pin down the 'style', but they're somewhere in the realm country, bluegrass, early Eagles, Stephen Parker Band, etc. All are outstanding musicians and while about half the album are covers, the originals show that these guys are going to be around a long time with their own style. Really outstanding stuff.
