Album Notes

"An artist with a great voice…a mighty fine composer as well." (O.J. Sikes, western music critic and historian in The Western Way and Rope Burns)

"A wonderful voice…up there with the very best…he reminds you of Rex Allen and Bob Nolan." (Byrl R. Johnson of Frontier Records)

WAYNE AUSTIN was born in Duke, Oklahoma. His grandfather was a cowboy in the old west and drove cattle on the old Chisholm Trail. From him, young Wayne learned to love the lore and the songs of the real cowboys. As a youngster, Wayne was a fan of the silver screen cowboys and the western music written for their films and recordings. The songs of the real cowboys and those of the silver screen cowboys have had a strong influence on Wayne as a singer and a songwriter.

WAYNE AUSTIN earned his BA and MA Degrees in Speech and Drama at Sacramento State University in California. Since his early retirement in 1991 as Speech-Communication Department Chair at De Anza College in the California Bay Area, he has appeared as a western singer on concert series and television shows, at western music festivals, and for civic celebrations and special events. These include featured appearances at the Gene Autry Museums in California and Oklahoma, Rex Allen Days and the Western Music Association Festival in Arizona, and The Rhymers Rodeer in Nevada. In 1999, he produced the entertainment and a commemorative CD for the Official California Sesquicentennial Wagon Train. As a recording artist, he appears regularly on the Worldwide Mainstream Charts of Artists Most Played by DJ's around the world on radio shows featuring traditional country and western music.

"What a voice! Wayne Austin's beautiful baritone voice has a resonance and timbre that is perfect for singing western music." (Rusty Richards, former member of the Sons of the Pioneers and member of the Western Music Hall of Fame)

"We enjoyed you…you are great!" (Rex Allen, the last of the singing cowboys of the silver screen and member of the Western Music Hall of Fame)

"It was great to see you and work with you at the Autry (Tribute)…and I enjoy playing your (recordings) on my radio show…I'm proud to call you my friend." (Johnny Western, Country Music Hall of Fame DJ and Western Music Hall of Fame singer-songwriter)

"Wayne Austin's love is rooted in the wonderful western heroes we all grew up with, and he is carrying on that tradition…God bless him!" (Tommy Overstreet, country singer)

"You'll love this CD! Highly recommended!" (Jay Taylor, editor of Country Musical Trails Less Traveled)
