Dan Weaver teaches classical guitar at the University
of Wisconsin and at Heid Music in Green Bay. He is
a classically trained musician and yet retains certain
elements of Art Rock in his composition. 'The Sun
Trail' is a collection of original instrumental pieces
for acoustic and classical guitar. Some sound like
elaborate solos by Steve Howe from Yes, a main
influence (check out 'Free Time' or 'Upstream').
Others sound like Yanni if he played guitar (check out
'The Mystery' or 'So Close'). Others are more classical
compositions by nature ('Candlelight Night') or fresh
combinations ('Summer's Promise' or 'The Sun Trail').
Also lend an ear to 'New Season' or 'The Way Home'
to catch traces of the music of Rush, another key
influence. The music develops more like a symphony
than like standard guitar music. Overall you will
find an original musical personality in Mr. Weaver.
Dan performs locally in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan,
usually as a classical guitarist. He also plays regularly
with a Christian worship band along with his teaching
and composition. Subjects of his teaching include
guitar pedagogy, music theory and history, advanced
ear training, composition, transciption and arranging
for guitar. Recently, he has taken up freelance teaching
of CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) with the hope
of turning a few campfire guitar players into colorful
church musicians. He has studied guitar with Douglas
Niedt, John Kolar, and John Holmquist. He enjoys all
styles of music but channels his energy into music
that is uplifting and introspective. His forthcoming
recording will be all classical music.
