What happens when you take two of the best songwriters around and have them make an album together? You get THE WEEPIES!

THE WEEPIES is the musical project centered around award-winning songwriters Steve Tannen and Deb Talan. "Happiness," a folk-pop nugget of new original standards, is their debut recording, featuring Signature Sounds artist Jim Henry on guitars, and Boston heavies Richard Gates on bass and Jeff Berlin on drums.

    Great jangly americana/rock/pop/folk. For fans of The Kennedys. Nice twists in the lyrics. All their cds make you smile. When you're not sure what you want to listen to, the Weepies are always a good bet. Holds up well in steady rotation on the changer.

    LOVE this duo. NoT such a great writer, wish I could convey how FAB I think all of their work is. This and their others are the only CDs I listen to 'ad nausem.' Worse than chocolate covered pecans - JUST CAN'T STOP. Mellow but not shallow; lyrics always seem to speak to me.

    Like many new Weepies converts, I first recognized their music when I inadvertently clicked on a JC Penney's ad. What a great mistake! The music is well done and the lyrics are insightful. In an age when recorded music seems to be synthesized and overproduced, it is nice to hear honest and well done music. What can I compare them to?...

    5 stars for the 2 songs that made this album worthwhile. It was a real search to find the cute little JC Penney Christmas song, then to fid the CD, but was worth it! Absolutely Love "All That I Want". The added bonus of "Somebody Loved" makes this a CD I'll keep for a very long time. Thanks and God bless you both and your family.

    The sounds are clear and pure. There is a beauty in the simplicity of the tracks on this CD that I truly appreciate. It is what I would call truly modern folk music that you can enjoy listening to again and again. The talent of this duo shine through.

    Everytime the JC Penny Christmas commercials aired, I was so drawn to the song that I contacted their company and found out the song was "All That I Want" by the Weepies. The entire CD is wonderful; I'll be buying all their CD's.

    What a GREAT CD!! Love this group. From the moment I first heard "All That I Want" on the JCPenny Holiday commercials, I knew I was hooked. What a wonderful song....very melodic and calming. I could just picture the winter scene they sang of.

    I was kind of nervous purchasing the album - I heard Say I am You first and it seemed hard to believe anything could match that. Happiness was however a very satisfying dose of the Weepies. The lyrics were intelligent and the album had a great variety of songs, from the sweet Somebody Loved to the catchy, upbeat Vegas Baby. Although Say I Am You is definitely the stronger of the two albums, Happiness is very satisfying and definitely comes highly reccomended.

    I grew up as a folkie in the 60's and this album has brought back the best of that era for me. As with others here, I also found them through the JCP commercial, and Penney's did the world a favor by putting them out there in the mainstream for people to discover.     The album lives up to its title, but in a chill, hanging out on a Saturday afternoon sort of way. It is only 8 songs long and leaves you wanting more, but the cure for that is their other CDs- also amazing. I especially love this version of "Jolene"- toe-tapping, sing-along-able fun.

    Words cannot express how much I love the Weepies! I first heard them on NPR's Weekend Edition which left me so intrigued I rushed out and bought “Say I Am You”. I listened to that album for weeks and wound up hopelessly addicted, in love with their sound! Needless to say getting Happiness was a forgone conclusion (along with everything else they’ve done). The songs are compelling – absolutely captivating lyrics coupled with magnificently simple instrumentation, perfectly complementing breathtaking vocals. Deb has one of the most interesting female voices I have ever heard, but whatever they do together takes things to a whole different level, it really is a musical match made in heaven...so good it’s ridiculous! :)

    Few albums are better. "Say I am you" is, but only just. Deb Talen's voice is strikingly beautiful, and the quality of the songwriting is so good with Steve Tannen that the music is more than the sum of it's parts. The arrangements are simple and often the instruments seem almost not there. Still the songs are moving and powerfully emotional. Great stuff!

    My only complaint about this album is that it's too short- but otherwise, all the songs are great. A nice mix of harmonies, lyrics and musicianship. I had first heard of Deb Talen through the movie "Lovely and Amazing" where her song "Forgiven" was played. When I learned of the Weepies, I went out and got their cd's right away. I'm glad I did.

    Bought Happiness for Somebody Loved, and kept it for all the rest. Great guitar work and lyrics. Way too short though; the Weepies could have made it 50 songs and it would still be too short! I love this CD. I'll listen to it more when I get it back from my wife.

    This CD makes you happy inside. The first track, Happiness, opens the album with the token line "can't steal happiness" and sets the tone for the rest of the CD! This album makes me smile. You get different tastes as Deb and Steve write songs on their own, as well as together- their styles complement each other very well. Nice guitar work, compositions, lyric writing (both Deb and Steve are master songwriters!), performance... buy this CD! My only wish? That they make more CDs!

    I heard Jolene on Sets 102.1 in San Diego and bought the CD on the strength on that one track. I was very pleased by the musicianship of the rest of the tracks and the songs keep growing on me. Definitely worth adding to your collection if you like Shawn Colvin, Glen Phillips, or other acoustic singers.

    From the moment I've owned this CD I've been playing it over and over. Why isn't there a radio station in Los Angeles that plays this type of music? I just don't get it. Deb, don't get mad but I got married and walked up the aisle or is it down the aisle to the song "Somebody Loved" off of a bootleg CD KNOWING I would buy the real thing the second it came out. But it didn't come out in time for my wedding so I had to do it. That song may be one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

    This is a must have cd. The vocals are stunning and the lyrics are intelligent. On a personal level, for some strange reason this cd brings back a lot of childhood memories of more simple and happy times. These are songs that stick with you. Unfortunately, the cd is only 26 minutes long....I am looking forward to the next. Thanks to cdbaby for a great ordering and delivery process.

    This CD is really really good. I'm so glad I can get access to great music like this all the way over the pond in the UK. I'm planning a road trip round the uk soon, and this weepies cd will cheer up many a dank, wet road journey. Even though there are not as many tracks as most other CDs, they are all gems in their own right.

    i heard 'somebody loved' in newport RI in 2002...so glad to have a copy of this perfect little simple song that says so much. The disc is lovely and a definite must in a Deb Talan or Steve Tannen collection. Two strong performers solo or together. Thanks for the great music.

    Deb Talan's voice is so crispy and rings like a bell. It is an interesting combo, but I am new to Steve Tannen's work. The harmonies are fantastic, a real treat!!! Deb's 'Something Burning' and 'A Bird Flies Out' are incredible also!!!!!!!

Their lyrics are sometimes clever, sometimes humorous, sometimes vulnerable, always thoughtful & powerful. I just can't thank them enough for sharing their gifts with us. I have seen them live twice and own all of their albums. I look forward to the next one.

    The Weepies first CD is awesome awesome! I'm a HUGE Deb Talan fan and got the chance to see her play with Steve in Portland this summer. They we're sooo great together, this album truely feels like a work of love~ It has this beautiful folky feel, and Somebody Loved is just the best song ever. I highly recommend it!

    Deb and Steve rock my world once again! "All that I want" is my favorite Christmas song of all time, and "Somebody Loved" is just beautifully innocent & ethereal. BUY THIS CD if you want happy tears! My only complaint is that it is less than a half hour of play-time.

    Deb Talan and Steve Tannen as The Weepies is a wonderful collaborative effort. Happiness showcases their evocative solo voices as well as their beautiful harmonies. Some songs were written separately, some together. Some upbeat, others quietly reflective. And you just HAVE to like a cd with a track called Dating a Porn Star. The only complaint I have is that it is TOO SHORT at only 26 minutes. Oh, and CD Baby rocks for getting this cd to me so quickly.
