MOSHI MOSHI BANDS
Sukpatch (moshi01)
moshi moshi's first release. A beautiful slice of American lo-fi slacker indie pop. "we got monkeys" was scratched on the run-our groove. See, what we've done there?
"It ambles in on what would be some strings if they had any money, then sashays around on a precious breakbeat; drawls languorously, gets stung by a buzzing guitar and ambles back out again." NME
Zan Lyons (moshi02)
Without a doubt our scariest release. It was even dressed in a plain black 7" bag.
"Gory as fuck blow-yer-head off chunk funk which is pre-distorted so your speakers don't have to bother" i-D
One of the NME's singles of the year for 2000
Blue Foundation (moshi04)
A shamelessly melodic slice of scando indie pop from Denmark's Blue Foundation. The perfect antidote to the techno noise-terror of Zan Lyons.
Junkboy (moshi03/moshicd03)
Much respected young avant-rockers from Southend. Described by the moshi naff tag-line dept as 'post-rock for pill heads'
"fitting somewhere between the loose guitar grooves of tommy guerrero, the esoteric excursions of chicago's thrill jockey family and the yearning ballads of Nick Drake, it's an album that is dipped in organic sauce that tastes sensational. Moreover its range, depth and 'less is more' approach will last well past the sell by date. Beautiful stuff". 5/5 IDJ
Ingo Star Cruiser (moshicd01)
Brain child of singer-songwriter-quiz master Peter Bellchamber, this was moshi's first album release. His sound has been variously described as sticky-backed plastic pop or pitched somewhere between Pavement and Prince. Pete likes to call it crop hop (he's from Dorset you see). The first moshi artist to play Glastonbury.
Matt Harding (moshicd02/04)
Guitar riffs Johnny Marr would be proud of, funk stylee breaks Tommy Guerrero would be jealous of, classic melodic electronica that would make New Order smile and acoustic blues that would get Jim O'Rourke singing on his porch of an evening... it can only be the distinctive electro-acoustic sound of Matt Harding, moshi moshi stalwart and N4 resident.
"Lovely. a sprawling beat splattered chillout". NME
"Blissful sunny afternoon contentment". Q
J Xaverre (moshi05/06)
The working name for musical genius Pete Gofton. These two e.p's showcased a unique songwriting talent and gave us our first NME single of the week
"...swept with playful lo-fi electonics, and topped by some nice guitar and angelic vocals, this second e.p from the former kenickie drummer continues his new musical vision with five more gorgeous songs that should appeal to sparklehorse, flaming lips and her space holiday fans". The Independent
Pedro v Kathryn Williams (moshi07)
It took us a while to get these two together, but it was certainly worth it.
"An inspired collaboration, this blends Pedro"s organic electronica with the lilting folk touches of Kathryn Williams. Music Week
"Verging on the intoxicating". Xray
"A collaboration made in heaven". IDJ
Hot Chip (forthcoming)
Describde by themselves as a mouthwatering blend of R n' B pop soul flipped out on an amateur tip with good songs. Once described by someone else as being like Dr Dre on mogadon.
Unsound (forthcoming)
New signing Unsound is the work of Icelandic synth genius Kristinn Blondel. The man who flew all the way to London just to play a cabaret set at Stephen's Christmas dinner. A uniquely talented and eccentric character his sound is somewhere between Sigur Ros and ELO. He even counts Bjork amoungst his fans.
Phil Stadium (forthcoming)
The mysterious Phil Stadium likes to keep his real identity secret. What we do know is he drinks too much whisky.
