Album Notes

"We'll Carry On" - West Street Records - 9/11 Benefit CD

"We'll Carry On" is an album of 16 original songs written by firefighters, police, volunteers at Ground Zero as well as local NYC musicians. Each component of the CD was donated: songs, cover photo, artwork, production, manufacturing, printing, mastering.

100% net proceeds of "We'll Carry On" directly support ongoing music and art programs for 9/11 families in the nonprofit Feel the Music! program.

(Sales from the original CD pressing in 2002 went to support three 9/11 charities, WTC Ground Zero Relief, PAPD WTC Disaster Survivors Fund and the 9.11 Victims' and Families' Association.)

Free panoramic WTC 'mini' poster included, signed by members of FDNY, PAPD and NYPD ESU.

In 2002, NYC singer-songwriter and WTC Ground Zero Relief volunteer Valerie Ghent organized three 9.11 benefit concerts featuring members of FDNY, PAPD, NYPD and WTC volunteers as well as local NYC musicians. Documented by the NY Times, NY Press & American Songwriter, these concerts presented 'voices from the trenches', songs written and performed by fire fighters, police officers and volunteers who worked at Ground Zero.

The CD cover is an original panoramic photo poster of WTC Tower 1 and NYC, taken from the observation deck of Tower 2 on 1/1/2001. Taken by noted panoramic photographer Everen T. Brown on January 1, 2001, the stunning image is surrounded by hundreds of signatures of FDNY, PAPD, NYPD who were each part of the recovery effort at Ground Zero. The signatures were collected at the WTC site from October 2001 through Feb 2002.

Valerie Ghent met photographer Everen T. Brown in October 2001, through fellow WTC volunteer Kevin McCrary, who collected the signatures, in a chance meeting at Nino's Restaurant where volunteers and rescue personnel went to eat free meals every day.

Acknowledging the importance of this music and of this signature poster, Valerie Ghent produced "We'll Carry On," the CD of 16 artists for indie label, West Street Records.

the songs are powerful, immediate, historic.
the voices are unforgettable.
the cover is outstanding.

I thought this was a great CD, shared with people by the musicians of NYC during a horrible time in our life. It was really touching to hear songs from the heart and to know that all proceeds were going to help victims families.

This CD has a wide variety of styles of music and was very moving. Having worked in NYC following the attack on Sept 11th it reminded me of the emotions of the wide cross section of people I worked alongside. The lyrics went right to my heart. Especially The Men. Great job Valerie.
