Wendy was born on March 12, 1974, in Redlands, California. She always attended church with her family, which also includes her younger brother. At a vacation Bible school when she was just five years old, Wendy accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, thanks to the example and teaching of her parents. So, from a very young age, Wendy has loved Jesus and wanted to serve Him with her life. She was baptized and made public profession of faith when she was twelve.
At the age of four, Wendy started music classes, studying piano for a total of nine years and later guitar for two. She began singing when she was little, participating in the church choir, then in a vocal ensemble in junior high and a classical and pop show choir in high school. During her years at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California, she sang in a vocal ensemble with whom she toured England and Scotland. That same summer, Wendy studied at the University of Malaga in Spain, earning credits toward her BA in Spanish Studies. She now also holds a Certificate in Interpretation and Translation from the University of California, Riverside.
Since she started studying Spanish in 1989, Wendy developed a great interest in everything Latin, especially in the people. It was while she was in high school that she took a spiritual gifts test which confirmed that missions was important to her, but the desire had grown in her heart much before that. She had accompanied a group from her church to take food to orphanages in Mexico in the past, and now she applied to participate in a mission trip to Europe. Even her mother says that she always knew that Wendy would become a missionary. So it was that after she graduated from college that Wendy went for the first time to Ecuador, as a short-term missionary with HCJB World Radio. One year later, God showed her His will for her life through an opportunity to return to Ecuador with Arbol Records as a graphic designer, combining her four loves: art, music, Spanish and serving the Lord. Through Arbol Records, which is no longer functioning, Wendy was able to record two albums and to give various presentations all over Ecuador and even in Colombia.
On April 5, 1998, Wendy married her best friend and a man after God's own heart, Jairo Lopez. The couple met in HCJB's Vozandes Choir during its annual concerts in 1995. Now they have the blessing of sharing their lives in a home whose foundation is Christ. They participate together in their church's worship band, and on many occasions, Jairo accompanies his wife in her different presentations as a singer. They currently live in Southern California, where Jairo is a resident physician in Family Practice. Wendy is blessed to be a stay-at-home mom to Elisa Claire, who was born in January of 2004.
