CD REVIEWS...........................................................................

Calico Sea a compelling release, from country rock to dustbowl ballads to torch songs to garage swing, Ohlwiler’s deceptively delicate warble and Prill’s masterful guitar strokes mold 11 tunes into their own uniquely cool vision thing: The Torrey Sound?" SL CityWeekly --Bill Frost

Calico Sea 10.01 "Wendy Ohlwiler = Joni Mitchell + Jefferson Airplane + Loretta Lynn... more portishead than Janis Joplin. Country western, folk, rock and jazz, which if you think about it, all have the blues as their common denominator" SLUG.--Spencer Jenkins

Calico Sea "These 11 songs linger in the memory like a half-remembered dream." --THE CATALYST

Ohlwiler's songs have received airplay as far away as Tokyo University, and as close to home as Moab.... Wendy picked up guitar and started singing and writing songs in late '97. Her first gig was the Moab Arts Festival. After playing for about 6 months Ohlwiler recorded a 3 song EP Pave the Planet which made the SL CityWeekly’s local top 50. The record was a collaboration with some of the area’s finest musicians, Drummer-Adam Sorensen formerly of the Jackmormons and guitarist and songwriter David Williams. Wendy's band was nominated for "Best new band" in 2000 in the SL CityWeekly reader's poll. She and David spent 4 years playing/touring with a band called Black Wagon adding Ian Peisner and in the early days Will Barclay. Their album "Bones" recorded in 2007 in Albuquerque will be available soon. "listen to the wind" a 5 song ep is available on myspace in mp3.

Recording and touring for 10 years, she's shared the stage with: Jason Molina and Magnolia Electric Co., Bearkat, David Dondero, Jukebox the Ghost, the Waifs (Vikki Simpson), Horse Feathers, Laura Gibson, The Band of Annuals, French Quarter, My Ferral Kin, Bright Carvers, Tandy, Amy Rude, Jason Webley, Adam Frumhoff, Ten Killer Twins, The Acres, The Weird Weeds, Kickball, Ben Kamen, Raina Rose, Callow, Glade, Wuhu Seai, Wren Kennedy, Dead Horse Point, Stacey Board, Melissa Warner, Adam Sorensen, Will Barclay, Mark Baysinger, Dan Bern and strangely, Trey Anastasio.

Wendy has played in NYC, DC, WA, OR, AZ, NM, CO, WY and hopes to tour abroad soon.
