notes

With a profound vocal blend; mercilessly charming stage presence; articulate banter; and passionate, quirky, compelling, convoluted, crafted, literate songs We're About 9 is the cross over between big energy performance and smart, substantial songwriting and arrangement. Definitely a folk-niche group focused on vocals and acoustic guitars.

THE BAND: Pat Klink (vocals, guitars), Katie Graybeal (vocals, bass), and Brian Gundersdorf (vocals, acoustic guitar)

Their live show has been described as "positively enthralling" by Singer Magazine Editor, Robert Lindquist, and "mind boggling" by Acoustic Live in New York Editor, Richard Cuccarro, who also believes that the songs "show stretches of imagination seldom seen anywhere." You can expect surprisingly complex vocal harmony arrangements and a critically acclaimed vocal blend, exciting and tasteful acoustic guitars, and electric bass. We're About 9 has been compared to Crosby, Stills & Nash; Barenaked Ladies; and Cry, Cry, Cry.

I love this cd. although I often feel sad listening to it, this is a good thing, since these artists bring real people I love to my mind, and I am also so happy to listen to lyrics and voices that elevate everyday people, places and events to something sacred.

  • Beautiful and real

This CD really cuts with some witty, real-life lyrics, and of course the musicianship of these three can't be beat. Brilliant!

  • SO MUCH LOVE!!!
    author: mogwit

This album has kept me sane this summer. The colors and music go so well into each other, everything fits with everything else, I could listen to this so many times and never get sick of it, because it feels like a new friend and and old friend always. I notice something new every time I listen to it. I am reminded of sun and sea and sand, and breeze, and trees, and there is so much MAGIC in here. I love, I love, I love so much. Fireflies and regular fire and tiny little blades of grass, there is LIFE in here.

  • A tree in a lifeless forest

I heard someone say once that the dreams of humans are very beautiful and lonely. This is what they were talking about. Listened to excessively it will start to seem cliched, so please don't--you'll only get fed up or depressed, and this music merits neither of these feelings. Listened to correctly (i.e. once straight through), one gets the sad and lovely sense of the world falling gently. (It should be said that We're About 9 are really lovely to be around.)

  • Best Yet
    author: Bethany

I think this is their best yet, and I hope there is more to come. Some of the songs are from their other albums, so less new material than I'd hoped, but still, Weight of the Ocean so darkly cheerful. It affects me differently every time. ALso Katy's Slow Sliding Funk, very nice. Overall fantastic.

  • Again . . . genius
    author: Patrick Fulford

I know these guys from Towson University. I have heard all three records. Personally, this is the biggest growth and the best effort on each member's part. The beauty is in the tasteful harmony and exquisite lyrics to which such Brahmsian melodies are sung. If you like David Crosby's work, you will love We're about 9, not only because their music bears his influence (whether intentional or not), but because it also augments on Crosby's virtues as an ensemble performer. • Stealing the Show
    author: Don

Best "crossover" CD on the market. Heard several cuts at the World Folk Music Benefit last month. The energy, harmony, and instrumentation in these songs stole the show. Someone, please tell me how to get "Albany" out of my head!

  • as great as they are live
    author: Rachel

These songs are as great as they were when I heard some of them solo at the Rabbit. They appeal to people with different music tastes, and the album shows impressive range--the three musicians really complement one another.

  • You can't go wrong buying this CD!
    author: Abbie G

Beutifully written songs, sung with great harmonies, masterfully recorded... and "Another Love Song" makes me cry every time.

  • Wow!

I fell across this band when they opened for Grey Eye Glances. Excellent, sometimes humorous songs, and very talented group. Love it!
