Mike Doussan, a New Orleans native, started playing in clubs around New Orleans in 2004 as a "sit in" musician. He would go around to different clubs in the city carrying his guitar with the intent of only playing a couple of tunes with whomever was on stage. He quickly became a regular at The Apple Barrel playing blues with Mike Hood and the Frenchmen St. Delegation, at Banks St. Bar playing funk with New Orleans Juice, and anywhere Eric Lindell was taking stage with his blue eyed soul ensemble. It wasn't long before he would start his own band, Westbank Mike and the Fisher Project. Rooted in New Orleans funk and blues, the Fisher Project would go on to win Best Blues Band at the 2006 Sonny Boy Blues Society's battle of the bands.
Mike began recording this record in early summer 2005 at Word Of Mouth Studios in historic Algiers Point. The band was comprised of Westbank Mike on guitars and vocals, Scott Jackson on bass, Brad Helms on guitar, Mike Burkart on keys, vocals, harmonicas, and slide guitar on 'Free', and Alabama Dave Waldrop on drums. Made' J, a slide guitarist from Bali that Mike met the night before a recording session at the Old Point Bar, appears on 'Life Story', 'Ballerina,' and 'Searchin For Salvation.' After working on the record for almost three months, the last note was recorded August 27th, 2005. Hurricane Katrina would hit two days later separating Mike and the rest of the band members, some indefinitly. Mike had lost communication with Word Of Mouth owner/engineer, Tim Stambaugh, in the aftermath of the storm and thought the worst......that the record he had worked on was gone. Then one day (it could've been weeks later, but it certainly seemed like months later) out of the blue Mike recieved an email from Tim wondering when he wanted to come by and start mixing the record. Relieved that all of their hard work was not lost to the storm, Mike and Scott drove down from their Houston refuge to finish the record. By January of 2006, the project was complete. Mike sold the record only at his shows for the next couple of years and one day ran out of copies and never manufactured anymore. This will be the first time 'Muse In The Kitchen' will be available to purchase in almost 5 years.
Mike has been a member of numerous New Orleans based bands including Gradoux, Crescent City Allstars, 101 Runners, Six Strings Down, Irene Sage Band, and Dave Jordan and the Neighborhood Improvement Association. He has also played alongside Dr. John, Warren Haynes, Walter Wolfman Washington, Tab Benoit, Joe Bonamassa, and Anders Osborne, to name a few. Mike also joined forces in 2008 with New Orleans drummer Jermel Watson, and Charlottesville, VA XPS members Joe Lawlor, Andy Waldeck, and Matt Horn to form Mojo Grande.
Mike is now performing as The Mike Doussan Band and is currently working on a new record. To contribute to the making of Mike's new record, "Sin Or Salvation," please visit www.mikedoussanband.com and click the "Donate" button on the homepage.
