Press Release / Bio and Band info for
"Rich Wetzel's Groovin Higher Jazz Orchestra"

Rich Wetzel's Groovin' Higher Jazz Orchestra, is led by the recognizable and very exciting, high energy, high note trumpet stylings of a really amazing local trumpet player, with some very notable national credits to his name,
Rich Wetzel. Rich recently signed a clinician / endorsing artist agreement with the world renowned Leblanc corporation, endorsing their trumpets, and he has personally played with some of the biggest names in the business like: The Four Tops, Smokey Robinson, The Platters, The Spinners, The Temptations, The Coasters, El Chicano, Al Martino, Charo, Si Zentners Big Band, The US Army Band, The US Air Force Band, various cruise ships, local bands and shows both here in the Northwest, and in his original home of Los Angeles, CA.

Wetzel says, "This group is my dream band, the one I have dreamed of having all my life. It is my favorite music to play, to watch be performed, and to listen to. This is the band I feel the most passionate about. It is so exciting, I love it"

How could you not? This is not your grandfathers big band, but some high intensity 50's-today stuff from people like Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, Woody Herman, and writers like Willie Maiden, Don Sebesky, Bill Holman, Sammy Nestico, Bill Liston, etc... This band is an intense ensemble with a bevy of amazing soloists. The band is an all star 21-piece outfit made up of some of the biggest names of the the local Seattle jazz scene, which includes Cliff Colon, Kareem Kandi, Greg Lyons, Bobby Medina, Kevin England, Eric Stevens, just to name a few.

This high intensity jazz orchestra is getting a lot of radio airplay all over the country, and rapidly becoming a nationally known and highly regarded group.

Last year they released a two-CD set, "Live At Jazzbones." This year we plan on releasing one or two new CD's. Most of the guys in the band are leaders themselves of other area groups and collectively put on a very exciting show, not to be missed!!! Whatever you do, make a point to go see these guys, buy their CD's and hot new jazz videos, you will love it!!!

Swingin'
author: Bill
This band really swings. I loved the tunes. The sound quality was a little shakey, but I would attribute that to it being a live album. Other than that, it was awesome.

Kind of like Maynard from the early 70s. It seems fitting that he's started endorsing Holton LeBlanc (Maynard's instrument brand from that period). The actual recording engineering isn't 100% - doesn't do justice to this fine musical group.

I enjoyed the songs in the CD. They were played well and with energy you can feel coming out of the performers.

Just when you thought they could groove no higher, along comes Wayne Bergeron to spur Rich Wetzel and his sidemen and women to new, stratospheric heights. It's an exciting album. Highly recommended!
