Jazz Guitarist
Chris White hails from Los Angeles but now resides in Oshkosh Wisconsin. Chris has studied all disciplines of guitar.
Having lived all over America and Central Europe, White has developed a unique jazz style, drawing from several influences.
He began his formal studies in Wichita Kansas under Rusty Russell, who moved to Nashville and played with Louise Mandrell. Rusty now writes for Guitar Player, Frets, as well as many other publications.
Chris majored in music at St. Mary's in Winona Minnesota. While there, he studied jazz harmonies and improvisation with Chris Rosenberg, from The Manhattan School of Music and Ornette Coleman Group. Eventually moving to Minneapolis, to study funk guitar with Miko Weaver who was with Prince at the time.
With such an extremely unique background, Chris White's debut HIDEAWAY is a powerful work in contemporary jazz. Soulful vocals of Joe Jordan and Janet Planet add even another dimension to this extensive CD. White offers fluid guitar synth and nylon string playing. Each song is well thought out, even down to the bagpipes and tin whistle.
HIDEAWAY has 15 original compositions that have something for the jazz enthusiasts, as well as the smooth jazz enthusiasts.
The songs on HIDEAWAY are clearly not cookie-cutter groove tunes.
A great debut!

Pizzazz !
author: Laura T Lynch of Kweevak.com
Chris has studied and performed with many talented musicians including his own band who are known as Playtime. White is a contemporary composer who plays both guitar and keyboards. His music is a magical blend of jazz and R&B with plenty of heart and soul. Chris's songs flow on fluid rhythms and smooth melodies. His arrangements are complex, utilizing a variety of tempos and techniques. This fifteen-track CD features first-rate instrumentals and quality vocal numbers. 'Parade' is the strong opener. It is a pageant of both whimsical and serious textures and tones. The song features sax, bagpipes and even an Irish tin whistle. It is a dynamic start that sets the vibe for the rest of the CD. 'Bayou City' was written for Chris's older brother who introduced White to Earl Klugh and David Sanborn, possible inspirations to this spicy instrumental. '9 Days' captures the euphoric feel of new love with a sexy saxophone and cool beat. 'Goodbye' is a classic jazz instrumental and a solid close for a collection that shines from start to finish. Chris White and Playtime are stellar and Hideaway is a jazz CD with plenty of pizzazz!

Very, very tasty!
This CD goes way beyond just "guitar" music.
White is clearly an accomplished composer that can write excellent music in many styles.
