Album Notes

Jason Whited’s blend of honky-tonk, country, and a hint of bluegrass is enjoyable, reminiscent of days sitting on the back porch with friends foot-tapping and singing along with the chorus. Delivering a range of delicate, smooth vocals, Whited draws similarities between George Strait, Clint Black and even Garth Brooks. The melodies on Big Time are catchy and uplifting, leaving the listener humming along to a string of strong tales of uplifting experiences and positive turnarounds. Spending his days as a teacher and nights as a musician, Jason Whited has come into his own with his sophomore CD, Big Time, and his debut single-song release, Big Time, reached the No. 1 spot on the TOP 100 ECMA Country chart and grabbed the number 1 spot on the EURO TOP 40 Most Played chart.

With almost two decades of performing and recording experience backing his hard-work and diligent efforts while pursing a music career, Whited has pulled out all the stops! Big Time is exactly that—it has all the expected ingredients of a Big Time production; jam-packed with the unmistakable sound of Nashville’s finest musicians playing top-quality songs, all orchestrated by band leader extraordinaire Joe Spivey, a multi-talented musician who is considered one of the best fiddle players on Music Row and a fourteen-year member of the John Anderson band. Whited, a self-admitted perfectionist, worked diligently alongside George Clinton, and together they produced an album they are both extremely proud of. “It’s a winner,” George remarked. Jason agreed—Big Time is all he had hoped, and dreamed it would be!

Perhaps this high school teacher from Middle Tennessee, with a voice that’s been described time after time as “pristine”, who clearly enjoys singing—has his site set on the Big Time in a big way. One thing is for certain… by no means is the singer making a trite statement when he says, “I hope you enjoy the music as much as I enjoy bringing it to you.” Jason Whited is a stylist in the truest sense, and the emotion and confidence his vocals exude while bringing listeners his music is up-lifting and down-right refreshing.

“Big Time is a collection of strong tunes impeccably executed!”

Whited co-wrote the title-track, “Big Time” as well as “I Went Down To Nashville”, “Wrong Thing Right”, “Lyin’ Together”, and self-penned “I Know I’m Goin’ To Heaven”. Jason’s former J T Country Acoustic Duo partner, Tom Lamb wrote “I Forgot To Thank Her”. After hearing the demo of “Let Me Down Easy”, Jason contacted co-writers Scott Allen Metro and Don Paul Moore and said, “This is a terrific country ballad, it has all the qualities of a classic traditional standard, I’d really like to cut it.” Whited is proud to be the first artist to record “Steady As She Goes” co-written by Terry Brown and Aaron Tippin, and also “Love Makes A Fool Of Us All”, penned by Nashville hit-makers Skip Ewing & the legendary Max D. Barnes. The last track on the album is a cover version of Hank Williams’ “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”. Whited said he wanted to record it because; “it’s one of the saddest and greatest country songs I’ve ever heard”.

He's hot and smooth and sings all his songs with his heart. His Big Time CD has definately pulled me closer toward traditional country music. This CD is mixed with catchy songs and funny ones as well, "Wrong Thing Right" and "Let Me Down Easy" showcase his dreamy, smooth vocals.

My advice - go buy this NOW!

What strikes one immediately on first listening to Jason Whited's second, self-released album, is the sheer quality of the songs, vocals and musicianship. In these days of throwaway releases with the shelf life of a May Fly, this makes a wonderful and refreshing change - an album to keep coming back to over the years. Jason's golden, silky smooth and emotive vocals fit the ten, expertly chosen and played songs to a tee. Styles range from pure country ballads to country rock, with an infusion of blues and soul. Jason also proves a consummate Songwriter, with the smash hit waiting to happen--Wrong Thing Right, co-written by Whited and Tom Lamb. Wonderful stuff. My advice - go buy this NOW!

Put on your Ray-Bans - This kid's gonna be a bright shining star !!!

This album has something for everyone. Up-tempo crowd pleasers (Big Time, Steady as She Goes), heart-wrenching ballads (Wrong Thing Right, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry), & Hank Junoir-ish drinking songs (I Forgot to Thank Her, I Know I'm Goin' to Heaven). My favorite is the soft & bluesy ballad Let Me Down Easy. The musicians are terrific & Whited's vocal styling is near perfect. It's unbelievable that this is a self-financed independent CD. It's refreshing to hear something that is not over-produced, and simply depends on passion & true talent; Whited & this CD are abundant with both. Appropriate title too, because I have no doubt that Jason is about hit it -- Big Time!!
