The album: "White Horses," a Tribute to the music of Venus de Mars, is the brainchild of Brooke Aldridge. At the date of this album's release, (Aug 6th 2013,) the state of Minnesota's Department of Revenue has brought a case against Venus de Mars, denying her tax status as a "working artist," and demanding back taxes. Venus has been fighting this determination, and has had to hire a lawyer. The cost of legal fees involved in this fight are significant. Venus and Hi/r wife Lynette Reini-Grandell, who's status as a working artist was also being challenged, went public with their situation, and began a fundraising effort to help pay for these legal fees. Individuals, and artists across the country have donated.
Brooke, upon hearing of this situation, and being an artist herself, felt it was important for the music community to make a stand of support, and asked the various musical groups she knew if they'd be willing to donate their time and effort to create a cover version of any song of their choosing from Venus' musical catalogue.
9 of these artists agreed: "Likehell" covered "God Dog" / "Ficshe" covered "Lust" / "Mach Fox f. Baschyn" covered "Love Is Nothing" / "Ellis" covered "White Horses" / "Matt Bat" covered "10,000 Monsters" / "Alexander Mondays vs. Paris 1919" covered "Kissed Adonis" / "One Neo Eon" covered "Tattoo" / "Glean vs. Feltronc" covered "Come On Death" / and "Empire State Human" covered "If God Were Caught."
