Album Notes

Join AL & Amy for an acoustic instrumental celebration that highlights over a decade of musical collaboration. Contemporary acoustic music at its best, hear Al's Petteway's signature finger style acoustic guitar- voted one of 30 essential guitarists in the USA (Guitar Player) and WAMA winner "best new -age artist, Amy White on piano, guitar and mandolin. With a brilliant convergence of Celtic, hints of progressive bluegrass, rock, country, blues, jazz and classical idioms- they create new acoustic music for a new generation. This new release features new compositions as well as new arrangements and newly digitally remastered favorites of their most popular and frequently requested music. REVIEW (2005)Acoustic Guitar: In the April issue of Acoustic Guitar: Al Petteway and Amy White, Acoustic Journey By Celine Keating Amy White and Al Petteway may hail from North Carolina, but Celtic mists animate Acoustic Journey, a retrospective of their ten years of musical collaboration. In a balanced mix of 15 traditional and original compositions cherry-picked from earlier solo and duo CDs, Petteway¹s formidable fingerstyle guitar and White¹s delicately nuanced mandolin, piano, and guitar dance like fairy lights in airy filigrees around each other. Three piano/guitar duets have a ruminative, pensive power like that of pianist George Winston, while on the lovely ³Lullaby,² White and Petteway¹s wordless vocalizing has echoes of Irish singer Enya. But compelling melodies, percussive accoutrements, and masterful dynamics hold new-age glibness at bay, as on the jazzy ³Baker¹s Dozen,² where Petteway seems to be having the time of his life on a fretless bass. The playing is as tight and fluid as only musicians who can read each other¹s minds can achieve, making this a great introduction to the award-winning duo¹s music. (Maggie¹s Music, www.maggiesmusic.com). "[Al Petteway] is quickly building a catalogue of some of the most beautiful instrumental guitar work ever recorded." - DIRTY LINEN MAGAZINE "An innovative instrumentalist known for his open tunings, Petteway offers a rich, dulcet sound that features a fusion of old and new." -- THE BOSTON GLOBE "[Amy White]...music of transporting power and beauty...shaped not only by a keen sense of lyricism and dynamics, but also a quiet soulfulness that continually draws in the listener." - THE WASHINGTON POST "Mesmerizing tone poems...just pure music...[White] continues to paint sumptuous portraits of life situations with a remarkable measure of clarity and color." - JAZZTIMES

We all envy Al and Amy
author: john castellari
This CD is packed with sensitively arranged, masterfully executed tracks that manage to visit other genres without losing their essential Celtic base. I don't know how they do it -but it sure works for me! In this household we all envy Amy and Al - who wouldn't just love to make such beautiful music with their partner?
